Where will Sanju Samson bat for India in the Asia Cup 2025 after Shubman Gill's return?

Sanju Samson has been amongst India's best batters in the T20Is

The Indian squad for the Asia Cup 2025 was unveiled on Tuesday (19th August). The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and captain Suryakumar Yadav addressed the press conference and announced the team for the tournament.

Shubman Gill was appointed as the vice-captain of the Indian team, and this also marked his return to the T20I after more than a year. The batter last played for the team in the format during the series against Sri Lanka in 2024 after the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

This also invited a lot of criticism, but the BCCI looked at the future and named Shubman Gill as the vice-captain. The reports suggested that he is being groomed as the next captain in the T20Is, with Suryakumar Yadav being 35.

With Shubman Gill getting included in the Indian team, this means that he will be in the top order. This means that one of the openers will have to make way for him. With Abhishek Sharma being handy with the ball as well, Sanju Samson is likely to face the snub.

Where will Sanju Samson bat for India in the Asia Cup 2025 after Shubman Gill's return?

Sanju Samson has been amongst India's best batters in the T20Is. Since last year, he has played a vital role for the team, slamming truckloads of runs. But he will have to face the unfortunate snub as an opener.

There are chances that Sanju Samson might bat in the middle-order, but with that being not the best at five or six, team management might prefer Jitesh Sharma. The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) batter has been doing a great job with the bat down the order.

He played some sensational knocks in the IPL and helped RCB win the title. It remains to be seen where Sanju Samson will bat in the Asia Cup 2025. The tournament will begin on 9th September in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
