Where is Mohammed Shami? Has BCCI moved on him? Check why the pacer wasn’t included in the squad for the West Indies tests?

Indian Cricket Team fast bowler Mohammed Shami was one of the notable omissions in the Indian squad for the test series against the West Indies Cricket Team. The series between the two teams will be played from 2nd October in Ahmedabad.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the Indian squad for the test series against the West Indies on Thursday (25th September). This will be the second series for India in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) Cycle 2025-27.

One of the things that caught the attention of many was Mohammed Shami’s absence. It has been more than two years since the fast bowler has been out of the action in tests since the final of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023 against Australia in England.

It was widely speculated that Mohammed Shami would be back in the England series. But that wasn’t the case as he reportedly missed out due to fitness issues. Shami played in the domestic circuit as well, keeping in mind the West Indies tests.

However, his name was yet again missing from the squad and it raised a lot of eyebrows. Selector Ajit Agarkar was asked about and his reply surprised many as he said that a fast bowler needs to play more cricket.

"I have no update. He has played in the Duleep Trophy. But in the last two to three years, he hasn't played a lot of cricket. I think he played one game for Bengal and one in the Duleep Trophy. As a performer, we know what he can do, but he has to play cricket.”

Mohammed Shami not in the scheme of things in tests anymore - Reports

However, as per the reports in Times of India, it is learned that selectors have moved on from him in the tests and he isn’t in the plans. This comes as a massive surprise as he has been leading the pace attack for a while.

Shami is now expected to be seen in action during the Ranji Trophy 2025/26. He would be keen to perform there and help himself make a comeback.
