What Went Wrong for Australia Women? Full Breakdown of Their Semi-Final Collapse | IND-W vs AUS-W 2025
The much-anticipated semi-final between India Women's Cricket Team and Australia Women's Cricket Team in the ICC Women's World Cup 2025 didn't go in favor of the defending champions. The mighty Australian side, which is known for performing well in the big matches, failed this time against the Indian Women and lost the semi-final by five wickets.
India played exceptional cricket; they handled the pressure of the knockout game perfectly and batted well against the strong bowling lineup of Australia. However, the bowling was quite concerning for both teams, but the batters did a fantastic job. This was the highest run-chase in a knockout game in the history of white-ball cricket in both Men's and Women's cricket.
Australia Women's were unbeaten throughout the tournament, and they lost their first game in the semi-final against India. They scored a massive 338 runs and gave the Indian Team an impossible target to chase, but Indian batters held their nerves and stood against Australian bowlers and easily chased the target in 48.3 overs.
What Went Wrong for Australian Women?
Strong Start but Early Pressure:
Australia had a good start; however, skipper Alyssa Healy got out early by scoring just five runs, but later, Phoebe Litchfield and Ellyse Perry made a 155-run partnership for 2nd wicket. Both led the Australian team back into the game, but when Litchfield got out, Australia lost a couple of wickets, and this exposed their middle-order batting.
Feilding and Extras:
Australia's fielding was below par in this match. They could have done better; dropped catches and misfields helped India Women to capitalize and maintain the scoreboard pressure.
