Virat & Rohit to retire? BCCI Calls High-Level Meeting on Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli's ODI Future ahead of 2027 ODI World Cup

Indian Cricket Governing-Body Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is preparing for a major decision that could change the course of Indian cricket. Sources indicate that the BCCI will soon hold a crucial meeting to discuss the future of Team India's two biggest stars, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, in the 50-over format.

The Times of India in a news-report has confirmed in a report that the future of these two Indian stars will be discussed after the conclusion of the ODI series against South Africa. Several issues will be discussed in the meeting. Coach Gautam Gambhir and selection committee head Ajit Agarkar will also be present.

This high-profile meeting is likely to take place after the conclusion of the upcoming three-match ODI series against South Africa. It is reported that the discussions will take place in Ahmedabad, possibly immediately after the conclusion of the third and final ODI.

The main agenda of this meeting is to develop the Indian team's roadmap for the 2027 ODI World Cup. The board and team management now want to ensure that the senior players are provided with complete clarity regarding their future roles.

In accordance to the news-report,  A person close to the BCCI stated, "We need to make sure that our roadmap for 2027 is crystal - clear. We need to have a conversation with Virat and Rohit, two of the nation's most important players, about what they anticipate from the 50-over format and what the board wants of them.

Rohit and Virat only play ODIs. Playing only one format makes it take time for players to get back into international cricket rhythm after a long break. The selectors believe this challenge needs to be addressed. They will also consider providing adequate international experience to young talent to build a strong core team for the 2027 World Cup.
