Australian great, Ricky Ponting has shed some light on why he turned down the world's richest cricket board's offer to be the head coach of the Indian side following the end of Rahul Dravid's tenure. Ponting, who recently completed his IPL 2024 stint with Delhi Capitals, revealed that he was approached with "a little one-on-one conversation" by the officials midway through the IPL 2024.



During his recent interaction with the International Cricket Council (ICC), Ponting opened up that though he would love to be part of the senior men's side as the coach, it requires some rigorous commitment to be on the road throughout the year.



"I've seen a lot of reports about it,? Ponting told the ICC when asked whether he was approached by the BCCI for the coaching role. ?Normally these things pop up on social media before you even know about them, but there were a few little one-on-one conversations during the IPL, just to get a level of interest from me as to whether I would do it."



Taking up the role of head coach with Team India will require Ponting to quit his coaching duties with the Delhi Capitals, as it involves the conflict of interest issue as per the BCCI's rule book. Moreover, the coach has to be on the road for close to 10 months a year. 



"I'd love to be a senior coach of a national team, but with the other things that I have in my life and wanting to have a bit of time at home?everyone knows if you take a job working with the Indian team you can't be involved in an IPL team, so it would take that out of it as well."



The former World Cup-winning captain added that his present lifestyle won't allow him to be involved with a contract that requires massive commitment.



"Also, a national head coach is a 10 or 11-month-of-the-year job, and as much as I'd like to do it, it just doesn't fit into my lifestyle right now and the things that I really enjoy doing."

"My family and my kids have spent the last five weeks over at the IPL with me and they come over every year and I had a whisper to my son about it, and I said, ?Dad?s been offered the Indian coaching job? and he said, 'Just take it dad, we would love to move over there for the next couple of years?" Ponting laughed.



"That's how much they love being over there and the culture of cricket in India, but right now it probably doesn't exactly fit into my lifestyle."



Ricky Ponting has been around the IPL for about seven years now. Earlier he was involved with Mumbai Indians, before moving to Delhi Capitals (DC) as their head coach. 



He had a mixed outing this season with his side - Delhi Capitals - narrowly missing the <a href="https://iplt20.com">IPL</a> 2024 playoff qualification. The team managed to win seven matches and lost as many in the league stages and finished sixth in the points table.



Under Ponting's watchful eyes since 2018, Delhi has made it to the playoffs three times, which includes a solitary IPL final appearance in 2020. In the last three seasons, Delhi hasn't gone past the league stages due to their underwhelming show.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has recently released a notification for the role of head coach in the senior men's Indian team. The post will be vacant after the completion of the extended tenure of incumbent Rahul Dravid, who is set to be relieved from his duties after the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024. 



Notably, Rahul Dravid was convinced to take up the head coach duties in Team India after the completion of Ravi Shastri's tenure in 2021. Dravid led India to the final of the ICC World Test Championship 2023 along with the lucrative ODI World Cup in 2023, besides leading the team to top positions in all three formats of the game.



Dravid's tenure was completed after the ODI World Cup 2023, where Team India lost in the finals to Australia, however, keeping in mind the impending ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024, the BCCI extended his contract for a year. This time, Dravid hasn't asked for any extension and conveyed the same to the BCCI, hence the post will be vacant.



The term of office for the new head coach is specified for three and a half years by the BCCI, which will begin on July 1, 2024. The roles and responsibilities include developing a "world-class" team across all formats for sustained success. He will also be leading the specialist team of coaches and support staff, who will assist the team.



Being Team India's head coach is a rigorous task as it involves being on the road for approximately 10 months a year. The only substantial leave a head coach gets is during the IPL window, which is two months.

T20 World Cup 2024: The first batch of Indian players selected for the impending ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 has left for the United States on Saturday evening. The team was spotted at the Mumbai Airport on May 25 following their completion of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 campaigns.



Among the cricketers who were spotted were skipper Rohit Sharma, senior pacer Jasprit Bumrah and Suryakumar Yadav. The team also saw the presence of Shubman Gill, Mohammad Siraj, and Arshdeep Singh.

The all-rounder is reportedly having amidst his vacation following the completion of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.



Notably, Hardik Pandya wasn't spotted with the first group of Indian players who departed for the United States on Saturday evening. This all happened amidst the rumours of his separation from his wife Natasha. If the reports are to be believed, the two are having turmoil in their relationship which has resulted in the fallout. 



Hardik Pandya had a pretty stressful time at Mumbai Indians (MI) in IPL 2024. The MI skipper had to face backlash from the MI fans throughout the entire season of the IPL for replacing Rohit Sharma. 



Following the season, which saw MI finish at the bottom of the points table, Hardik flew out of the country to some undisclosed location to get some fresh air away from the sport.



However, his vacation is believed to be over now with the approaching ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024. The all-rounder is expected to reunite with team India on Sunday evening in New York.

His knock consisted of 12 fours and 16 big sixes. The Men in Blue won this contest versus the Aussies by a margin of 57 runs. 
<h3>2. 264 runs versus Sri Lanka in Kolkata</h3>
On the 13th of November 2014, in the One Day International match played versus Sri Lanka in the city of Mohali, the Hitman Rohit Sharma went berserk and created a world record as he played a monstrous inning of 264 runs, a record which no batter has been able to break till date. This was his second Double-Hundred in the format and he became the only batsman in the world to do so. 
The opening batter destroyed the entire bowling unit of Sri Lanka as he smashed them to all parts of the ground in his 264 runs knock. He faced a total of 173 balls and smacked 33 fours and nine beautiful sixes. He scored 186 runs out of 264 with the help of fours &amp; sixes. Thanks to this amazing knock of the Hitman, Team Indian secured the victory in this contest by a margin of 153 runs.
<h3>3. 208 runs not out versus Sri Lanka in Mohali</h3>
On the 13th of December of 2017, in the Mohali One Day International match versus the Sri Lankans, Rohit Sharma scored the third double hundred of his career as he played a fantastic knock of 208. He played 115 balls to complete his century. Then, he upped the gear and took just 36 deliveries to complete his double century. This was also the second best score by a player in One Day Cricket as a skipper. 
The record of the highest individual score as the captain in ODI's is in the name of Indian legend Virender Sehwag. The legendary opening batter played an awesome knock of 219 runs versu the Windies at the Holkar Stadium of Indore in December of 2011.
