Trophy Controversy!! PCB Chief Mohsin Naqvi Takes Away the Asia Cup Trophy After India National Cricket Team’s Win
The India vs Pakistan Asia Cup 2025 Final in Dubai was not just a cricket match but it became the center of an unprecedented trophy controversy involving Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman and Asia Cricket Council (ACC) president Mohsin Naqvi. After the India National Cricket Team clinched a dramatic victory, everyone seemed shocked when Naqvi left the stadium with the Asia Cup trophy.
India National Cricket Team defeated Paksitan National Cricket Team in the Asia Cup 2025 Final by 5 wickets in a high-pressure and close contest. From Middle-order batters to effective bowling in crucial overs, the Indian team showed complete dominance. However, there was a moment when Pakistan seemed ahead in the game, but in the end, they lost another final.
Pakistan’s Mohsin Naqvi and the Trophy Drama
After the thrilling last over match and India beat Pakistan by 5 wickets, players and fans eagerly anticipated the prize distribution ceremony. However, tensions erupted when it was time for the trophy handover. According to the protocol, the ACC chairman was supposed to present the trophy to the winning side.
In this case, PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi, who is also a senior politician from Pakistan, took the stage. However, it was quite expected before the match that the India National Cricket Team would refuse to accept the trophy directly from Naqvi due to ongoing political tensions and previous provocative gestures during the tournament.
They refused, and the post-match presentation was delayed for nearly an hour. Meanwhile, Indiavidual awards were handed out to the players, and the Pakistan Team received their runner-up medals but the Asia Cup final Trophy and medals were not presented to the Indian Team.
Ultimately, the Indian National Cricket Team celebrated their victory without the trophy, marking a rare and shocking moment in cricket history.

India stands firm amid controversy.
BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia made it clear that the Indian team would accept the trophy only from a neutral Emirates Cricket Board official, not the Pakistani ACC chief.
He said, “We have decided not to take the Asia Cup trophy from the ACC chairman, who happens to be one of the main leaders of Pakistan. So we decided not to take it from him, but that does not mean that the gentleman will take away the trophy with him, along with the medals, so it is very unfortunate, and we hope that the trophy and the medals will be returned to India as soon as possible.”
“There is an ICC conference in November in Dubai. In the next conference, we are going to launch a very serious and very strong protest against the act of the ACC chairperson, Mohsin Naqvi.”

Suryakumar Yadav on this Trophy Controversy:
“This is something that I have never seen or heard since I started playing cricket that the winning team doesn’t get the trophy that it deserves, but for me, the real trophy is the players, support staff & everyone who contributed. What matters is that everywhere you see on screens, it says, the Indian Team is the Asia Cup Champions.”
