Team BANNED? ICC Suspends Cricket USA – Full Story Inside
In a shocking development for cricket fans in the USA, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has suspended USA cricket with immediate effect. This decision, announced on September 23, 2025, was a significant move by ICC and raises questions about the future of cricket in the United States of America, which seems to be as world's largest market after India.
As per the report by espncricinfo, the decision for the suspension of the USA Cricket was taken by the ICC borad in a virtual meeting on September 23, 2025. However, USA Cricket board chairman Venu Pisike said, they are unware of the suspension made by ICC and also added, they have no communication with ICC over the recent suspension.
Why did ICC suspend USA Cricket?
ICC suspended USA Cricket mainly because it failed to meet its membership obligations as outlined in the ICC Constitution. The Suspension was not sudden; it followed a long period of concern and warning by ICC to the USA Cricket over several issues.
List of the reasons for Suspension:

USA Cricket failed to implement a functional and effective governance structure despite given warnings and deadlines.

USA Cricket wasn't making good progress toward becoming recognized as the National Governing Body (NGB) by the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC).

The Actions and behaviors of USA Cricket were not just damaging the reputation of cricket in the U.S. but also internationally.
ICC had also placed USA Cricket "on notice" in July 2024 and gave them a full year to address these critical issues. But unfortunately, despite this warning, the problems wasn't solved by USA Cricket, which led to suspension by the ICC board.
Does this mean, USA can never play cricket?
This may sound like the end of the USA Cricket, but it has nothing to do with the team; they are going to play the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026, and they also hosted the T20 World Cup 2024. The suspension is on the USA Cricket board, not on the team or players.
The ICC will now oversee the management and administration of the USA National Team on a temporary basis. As per the reports, the USA will be the part of six teams that will be participating in the 2028 LA Olympics; however, this isn't officially confirmed by the ICC.
Will USA play in the T20 World Cup 2026?
The suspension of the USA Cricket does not impact the team's participation in the tournaments. Last year, the USA co-hosted the T20 World Cup 2024 and they defeated Pakistan in the tournament on their home soil and qualified for the second round.
Therefore USA will be playing the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026, which is set to be played around February-march in India and Sri Lanka.
