<p>Former team India skipper Virat Kohli had a bitter fall-out with the then BCCI brass, owing to which he decided to relinquish his test role following India's test series loss in South Africa in early 2022. </p>



<p>Although Virat also hasn't been successful in leading India to the coveted ICC glories, under his leadership team India touched new heights in test cricket and even remained one of the most successful teams.</p>

<p>Mumbai-born Ajinkya Rahane was the only batter who looked to go big against Australia in the recently concluded ICC WTC Final 2023. He scored 89 and 46 in the two innings of the test. He certainly owned his comeback game after 18 months and will continue to be a part of Team India in the future.</p>



<p>Under Virat Kohli's leadership, Ajinkya Rahane was awarded the vice-captain's role, however, he was stripped of the responsibility following a string of poor performances in the last year or so. <p>Although Jasprit Bumrah didn't take part in the ICC WTC Final 2023 against Australia, he still is a very big part of the Indian setup. In fact, he is currently irreplaceable in the team and many experts reckon the presence of Bumrah in the Indian side could have made a big difference in the WTC Final 2023 in London.</p>

<p>Notably, team India is set to visit West Indies in the coming month for the two-match test series, which will also mark the start of the new World Test Championship (WTC) cycle 2023-25. The two tests against WI will be held in Dominica and Trinidad respectively.</p>



<p>Gavaskar said criticism will follow team India after their embarrassing performance in the WTC 2023 Final. He said even they faced the heat when they performed poorly, back in the day.</p>



<p>"I have been in the teams where we have been knocked out at 42 and we had been miserable in the change rooms. We were also criticised heavily. So, I think you cannot say that the current lot is not beyond criticism," said Sunil Gavaskar.</p>



<p>He mentioned <a href="https://www.icccricketschedule.com/javed-miandad-fires-a-warning-to-the-indian-cricket-team-following-their-refusal-to-travel-to-pakistan-for-the-champions-trophy/" title="the Indian" class="auto-internal-link" data-auto-link="1" data-link-type="suggestion" data-rule-id="0">the Indian</a> management must analyse and try to decipher what went wrong for the team in the five days of play owing to which they suffered the defeat in yet another ICC final.</p>



<p>"They have to be very analytical about what happened, how they get out, why didn't they bowl well, why didn't they catch, was the selection of the Playing XI was the right thing, so all these factors have to come in," he said.</p>



<p>Meanwhile, Gavaskar didn't mince his words and launched a scathing attack on the Indian side which is known to have an upper hand over their opponents in the bilateral fixtures. </p>

<p>"You cannot brush this under the carpet like 'yeah we have got two matches against West Indies'. West Indies are not the best team in the world. You just go and hammer them 2-0, 3-0, whatever the matches are. This doesn't mean anything because when you come across and if you go to the finals and if you are playing Australia again, making the same mistakes, then how would you win the trophy?" he added.</p>



<p>The India tour of West Indies (IND vs WI) is set to begin on July 12 with the two-match test series. The two sides will then proceed to the three-match ODI series and a five-game T20I series to conclude the month-long tour in West Indies and the USA. The final two games of the five-match T20I series will be held in Florida.</p>

<p><strong>ICC WTC Points Table Updated:</strong> Bangladesh is set to lock horns <a href="https://www.icccricketschedule.com/qualification-scenario-of-india-for-the-wtc-2023-25-final-after-the-historic-test-series-lost-against-new-zealand/" title="against New Zealand" class="auto-internal-link" data-auto-link="1" data-link-type="suggestion" data-rule-id="0">against New Zealand</a> in the two-game test series starting tomorrow (November 28). The NZ vs BAN 1st Test will be held at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium. </p>



<p>While most of the other teams have already begun their World Test Championship (WTC) campaigns, New Zealand and Bangladesh are two of the three teams that haven't yet kickstarted theirs. The likes of India, Pakistan, West Indies, Australia, Sri Lanka and England are already off the mark.</p>



<p>New Zealand's tour of Bangladesh 2023 includes three ODIs and two game test series. While New Zealand have convincingly won the ODI series 2-0, they will fancy their chances in the Test series as well in the spin-friendly conditions.</p>



<p>The Kiwis will brace themselves to continue their dominating run against Bangladesh, who have not managed to go past New Zealand in the test series so far. Twice the test series has been drawn, including the one held in 2021/22. But the Bangla Tigers will aim to go past the winning rope this time.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>ICC World Test Championship (WTC) Points Table</strong></h2>



<p>Talking about the WTC rankings, Pakistan has so far claimed a 100 per cent winning record in the two games they have played in the ongoing cycle. Second-placed are the Indians, who have a 66.67 winning percentage, after playing a test series against West Indies. </p>



<p>Australia is ranked third in the ICC WTC Points table with 30 per cent winning followed by West Indies (16.67 per cent), England (15 per cent) and Sri Lanka (0.00 per cent).</p>



<p>The remaining three teams - New Zealand, Bangladesh and South Africa - are yet to play a test match after the completion of the last World Test Championship cycle which was clinched by Australia.</p>

A class innings by skipper Shanto and Joy, good use of bat and ball by Mominul followed by a spectacular 10-wicket haul by Taijul Islam. A near-perfect team game led Bangladesh to register a commanding 150-run victory against New Zealand in the first Test in Sylhet on Saturday (December 2).</p>



<p>Bangladesh won the toss and opted to bat first. A fresh and almost dry surface with no swing was offered for BAN vs NZ 1st Test where the Bangladeshi batsmen enjoyed batting a lot on DAY 1. Bangladesh successfully locked in the score of over 300 in the first innings.</p>

<p>New Zealand had a tumbling start but veteran Kane Williamson held on to an end and smashed a century. Daryl Mitchell and Glenn Phillips showed some resistance against the Bangladeshi bowling attack but couldn't hold it for long still New Zealand managed to take a 7-run lead in the first innings.</p>



<p>New Zealand succeeded and picked up early wickets but skipper Shanto hung to the crease and smoked a solid century. Wicketkeeper batter Rahim and all-rounder Miraz also smacked half-centuries and posted a huge 332-run target for New Zealand to win the first test on the 4th and 5th-day pitch.</p>

<p>This time, Bangladesh trapped the New Zealand batters and successfully picked up wickets at regular intervals. New Zealand were 7 down for just 102 runs in a chase of 332 at the end of Day 4. Bangladesh wrapped up things early in the 5th day morning and won the test by 150 runs.</p>



<p>This was the first match of Bangladesh in the new cycle of the World Test Championship and they successfully won it. They have 100% PCT points and are at the second spot in the latest ICC WTC points table replacing India. While, New Zealand on the other hand are now placed 7th in the table along with Sri Lanka, who lost two test matches to Pakistan. Pakistan are still at the top with 100 PCT points in 2 matches.</p>

<p>After trailing in the series 1-0, New Zealand knew it would be a rank-turner again but they were prepared this time. Bangladesh were good at the toss and opted to bat first. The Blackcaps bundled out the Tigers in just under 66 overs where the latter could only manage to post 172 runs. Santner and Phillips share 3-3 wickets while Azaz Patel got 2.</p>

<p>New Zealand also had a bad day at batting. They were five down for just 55 at the end of Day 1. The entire Day 2 was lost to rain and the first session of Day 3 also went uneventful. When the game restarted, the retaliation from Glenn Phillips was ruthless as he smacked 87 off just 72 and led his team to an 8-run lead at the end of their innings.</p>



<p>Bangladesh lost two wickets in the evening session at 38 runs before the play was called off due to bad lights. On day 4, Bangladesh could only add 104 runs to their overnight score as Azaz Patel's spin proved out too good for Bangladeshi batsmen. <p>Batting wasn't easy on the Dhaka surface as New Zealand also lost 5 wickets for 51 runs. Glenn Phillips and Mitchell Santner then took the charge and turned on the ODI mode. Both played low-risk shots but with boundaries in every over and led their team to win the Dhaka Test.</p>



<p>With this win, New Zealand is now at number three with Bangladesh. They both won one game each in the series and possess 12 points each. Pakistan is still at the top with 100% PCT Points and they have a three-match series coming up next against Australia in Australia. They are followed by India with 66.67% PCT Points.</p>

<p>King Kohli will bat at number four in the batting order. In the recently finished ODI World Cup 2023, he was in the best form of his life, overtaking the great Sachin Tendulkar in terms of most ODI centuries. He had a rest after the World Cup and will make his comeback in the Test series against the Proteas. He would be hoping to replicate his ODI form in the longest format of the game, and his contributions will be crucial for Team India against South Africa.</p>



<p>Shreyas Iyer will make his long-awaited return to the longest format of the game in the series against South Africa. He played his previous test match against Australia in this year's Border-Gavaskar Trophy before suffering a back injury that forced him to miss the IPL 2023 and the WTC 23 Final. Ajinkya Rahane replaced Iyer in the lineup, but Rahane failed to impress during the West Indies tour, and Shreyas Iyer has been in top form in recent months, and he will be eager to end 2023 on a high by helping India win the test series against South Africa.</p>



<p>KL-Rahul will play the role of wicketkeeper against the Proteas. He usually prefers opening in the longest format of the game, but this time he would be seen batting at number 6, which is going to be quite unusual for him, and it would be interesting to see how quickly he adapts to his new role in Test matches.</p>



<p>For the first match, Ravindra Jadeja is slated to be the lone spinner. <p>Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj are going to be sure shot starters in both the test matches against the Proteas, but the question is: who will be the 3rd seamer in the absence of the injured Mohammed Shami? Mukesh Kumar made his test debut against the Windies earlier this year and is coming off a decent ODI and T20i series against South Africa. <p><strong>ICC WTC Final: </strong>In a massive update amidst the ongoing India vs England test series in India, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has revealed that the ICC World Test Championship 2025 Final will be held in England. Along with the WTC 2025 Final, which will be held in the Lord's, the 2027 edition of the event will also see its final in England.</p>



<p>A Request for Proposal (RFP) was issued by the ICC on Friday for a Social Responsibility Provider for the period of 2024-2027. The list mentioned the countries and the year in which they will host certain ICC events. </p>



<p>The list had England set as the host of the ICC World Test Championship 2025 and 2027 Final. It is worth noting that England has hosted the 2021 and 2023 editions of the WTC Final as well. </p>



<p>India lost the WTC 2021 final <a href="https://www.icccricketschedule.com/qualification-scenario-of-india-for-the-wtc-2023-25-final-after-the-historic-test-series-lost-against-new-zealand/" title="against New Zealand" class="auto-internal-link" data-auto-link="1" data-link-type="suggestion" data-rule-id="0">against New Zealand</a> in England's Southampton. Rohit Sharma and Co again failed to clinch the title in the second attempt during the 2023 WTC final against Australia at the Oval. The ongoing WTC cycle will have its final at the Lord's Cricket Ground in London.</p>



<p>The International Cricket Council (ICC) has often faced the criticism of hosting the premier test tournament in England. The fans and experts have lambasted the cricket's governing body for not moving out of England, even after already hosting earlier two editions in England.</p>



<p>In fact, Indian captain Rohit Sharma expressed his disappointment at the ICC, after India's WTC 2023 final loss to Australia, for hosting the event in England. </p>

<p>Moreover, June has been specifically kept as the window to host the World Test Championship Finals. The Final of the 2021 edition was held between June 18-23, meanwhile, the dates for the 2023 Final were June 7-11.</p>

Team India is placed second in the list with a 54.16 win percentage followed by South Africa (50.00), New Zealand (50.00) and Bangladesh (50.00) in the top 5.</p>



<p>The bottom part of the ICC World Test Championship Points Table comprises Pakistan in the sixth spot with a 36.66 win percentage followed by England (15.00), West Indies (11.11) and Sri Lanka (0.00).</p>
