T20 World Cup 2026 saw South Africa starting the tournament on a high with win in SA vs CAN.
South Africa, the runner-ups of the last edition, started the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 on a high note. They defeated Canada by 57 runs at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Monday. Asked to bat, South Africa posted a mammoth total of 213 for four, and then restricted Canada to 156 for eight.
Quinton de Kock (25) and Aiden Markram (59) carried on their good form and took South Africa off to a great start. The duo added 70 runs for the opening stand that put Canada under pressure.
Ryan Rickelton (33), at three, also played his part, adding 56 with Markram. Canada made a strong comeback after that with three quick wickets. However, David Miller (39*) and Tristan Stubbs (34*) made sure that they didn’t waste the start given by the top order. The Miller-Stubbs duo added 75 runs together and powered South Africa to a total of 213 for four.

Canada had a horrible start to their innings with captain Dilpreet Bajwa bagging a golden duck. After that, Lungi Ngidi, who removed Dilpreet, also removed his partner Yuvraj Samra. Navneet Dhaliwal (64) held the one end and hit a fighting half-century.
However, he didn’t get the support from others as South Africa kept taking wickets at regular intervals. Harsh Thaker (33) also played his part, but the target was beyond reach as South Africa restricted Canada to 156 for eight, winning by 57 runs. Lungi Ngidi was the pick of the bowlers with four wickets.
