T20 World Cup 2026 points table after match 3, IND vs USA

India had a great start to their T20 World Cup 2026 as they defeated the USA in their opening match of the tournament. In a game that took place at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, India were asked to bat, but they struggled for the majority of the innings, managing just 161 for nine. In response, the USA tried their best, but couldn’t carry on, losing by 29 runs.

India lost Abhishek Sharma for a golden duck, but then Ishan Kishan (20) and Tilak Varma (25), in testing conditions, batted well and added 37 runs for the second wicket. However, the last over of powerplay by Shadley van Schalkwyk changed the game for India as he took three wickets in a single over.

Then after that, USA bowlers kept chipping with wickets and left India reeling at 77 for six. With the team under immense pressure, captain Suryakumar Yadav (84*) stepped up and played one of the finest innings in his career.

He slammed a half-century under pressure despite no support from the other end. Thanks to his heroics, India posted a fighting total of 161 for nine.

In the chase, the USA failed to get going right from the start. Indian pacers Mohammed Siraj and Arshdeep Singh struck early to leave the opposition at 13 for three. Milind Kumar (34) and Sanjay Krishnamurthi (37) brought their team back in the game with their valuable innings, adding 58 runs for the fourth wicket.

But Indian bowlers kept chipping in with wickets at regular intervals and restricted the USA to 131 for eight, winning the game by 29 runs. For India, Mohammed Siraj took three wickets, while Arshdeep Singh and Varun Chakravarthy bagged two.
