Sri Lanka and Afghanistan are all set to take on each other in the second T20 international match of the three match T20i series at Dambulla’s Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium. The match will be played today, and it will commence at 7:00 IST.

Having whitewashed the Afghans 3-0 in the three-match ODI Series, the Wanindu Hasaranga led Sri Lanka started the T20 International series with a bang as they defeated the visitors by four runs in the first T20 International game.

After being asked to bat first, the Lankans were bundled out for 160 runs in 19 overs thanks to the superb bowling efforts of Fazalhaq Farooqi (3-25), Naveen Ul-Haq (2-25), and Azmatullah Omarzai (2-30). Left arm seamer Fazalhaq Farooqi ran through the top order of the Lankans as he dismissed both the openers, Pathum Nissanka (6 runs in 4 balls) and Kusal Mendis (10 runs in 8 balls), cheaply. Naveen, Ul-Haq and Noor Ahmad (1–18) kept the middle order under check as they kept on dismissing the batters at regular intervals. Then Lankan skipper Wanindu Hasaranga took matters into his own hands as he played a career-best inning of 67 runs in 32 balls at an excellent strike rate of 209.38. His knock helped the hosts put up a respectable score of 160 runs on the board. The Wanindu Hasaranga led team would like to seal the series with a victory in the second T20i.

A target of 161 runs looked like a gettable one, but the visitors could muster 156 runs in their quota of 20 overs. Afghan Skipper Ibrahim Zadran (67 runs in 55 balls) played the role of the lone warrior, as no other Afghan batter was able to support him from the other end. CSK Seamer Matheesha Pathirana (4-24), Dasun Shanaka (2-17), and Angelo Mathews (1-16) troubled the visitor’s batting unit with their variations and eventually, the Ibrahim Zadran-led team lost the first T20 International by four runs. Afghanistan would be looking to bounce back with a win in the second T20i if they want to stay alive in the series.
