IPL 2021: Team India’s batsman and Delhi Capitals skipper Shreyas Iyer has been ruled out of the whole IPL 2021 after he sustained a shoulder injury in the first ODI against England. Iyer was earlier ruled out of the ODI series while on Thursday it has been made clear that the cricketer will not be available for the IPL, starting next month. 

Iyer sustained a shoulder injury and has dislocated his left shoulder during the ongoing ODI series-opening game.

The incident happened in the eighth over when English cricketer Jonny Bairstow drive a ball off Shardul Thakur. Iyer tried to stop the ball and made an embarrassing dive and injured his shoulder. He looked in pain and left the field clutching his shoulder for further scans.

“Shreyas Iyer subluxated (partially dislocated) his left shoulder in the 8th over while fielding. He has been taken for further scans,” BCCI told on Tuesday.

The flamboyant cricketer has got wishes for a speedy recovery from all over the world after he left the field. Replying to all of them, Iyer wrote on Twitter, “You know what they say, the greater the setback, the stronger the comeback. I shall be back soon. I’ve been reading your messages and have been overwhelmed by all the outpouring of love and support. Thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone.”

Delhi Capitals CEO wished speedy recovery to Shreyas Iyer:

Delhi Capitals will be the ones who will suffer the most from this. DC CEO Parth Jindal said, “Totaly devastated and gutted for our skipper.”

“@ShreyasIyer15 – stay strong captain – hope for a very quick recovery. Have full faith that you will come back even stronger from this. India needs you in the T20 World Cup.”

Shreyas Iyer will require a least six weeks to recover from his injury while the time will increase in case his shoulder will require surgery.

Delhi Capitals will have to give the reigns to any other player from DC. The franchise has many options with the likes of Steve Smith, Ravichandran Ashwin, Ajinkya Rahane.

As per the reports, Rishabh Pant is in the fray to get the captaincy of Delhi Capitals.
