Now, as things start to pick up a gear again, so does sports--which means that a new season is something to watch out for.



While the odds and lines to bet today on IPL match are available, nothing is certain yet and these numbers would still change as the start date draws near. In the meantime, here are some of the most important things that you need to know about the IPL 2021.



<h2>IPL back in India for 2021</h2>



If 2020 was anything for the Indian Premier League, it was a very tough and challenging year for the teams and the entire league as a whole. Due to the worsening of the COVID-19 pandemic in India (as well as the many parts of the world, too), the BCCI decided to continue the <a href="https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/sports/cricket/ipl/top-stories/ipl-2020-could-the-tournament-be-played-outside-india/articleshow/76231097.cms">2020 season outside of India</a>. To date, while games have been played outside of the country in the past, it was never as ?forced? as it has been for the entire 2020 situation. This entire situation also put great stress on players as they were forced to play more games with tighter gaps to catch up to schedule as much as possible.



Now, the good news is that the situation may already be looking good enough that the cricket teams can finally go home and start the seasons in the league?s home country. According to the BCCI, although a new season held in the UAE was put into the table for considerations, it may not be the case anymore right now.



"We are working on having the IPL in India and we are hopeful that we would be able to organize it," BCCI treasurer Arun Singh Dhumalsaid in an interview. "We are not even thinking of a back-up also at this point, we are wanting to do it here. India is probably safer than UAE at this point. Hopefully, the situation remains stable and keeps improving and we will have it here."



<h2>IPL 2021 start date, auction date</h2>



So far, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had confirmed that the Indian Premier League 2021 season would start on April 11, 2021. This would place the new season only around two weeks after India finishes its tour with England. The all-format series games between the two countries started on February 5, 2021, and they will be played as a four-match Test series.



Of course, as usual, before the games, the auctions would take place. So far, several teams have already announced a partial list of players that they would retain for the upcoming season and those that they would let go and be left open for acquisition by other teams.



The auction will take place on February 18 in Chennai, and while there had been rumors of names that each team may acquire, nothing can be certain until the day itself comes.



<h2>Where to watch the IPL 2021 Livestream</h2>



For locals of India, the games will be telecast on the Star Sports Network, and the network has made a deal to have the game available in multiple languages for international fans. For everyone else outside of India, the games would be available for streaming through Disney+ Hotstar. Other streaming services are also expected to partner with the IPL to make the games available to as many fans around the world as possible.

?It would be good to keep playing the game. IPL is a great tournament with the world-class competition but going unsold was not unexpected for me. I?d prefer to be playing cricket, but a little bit of time at home won?t be the worst thing,? Cricket.com.au quoted Finch as saying.



No franchise was interested in the services of the Australian opening batsman in the Auction on 18th February at Chennai.



Australia will be taking on New Zealand in the five games T20I series starting on Monday. The opener of the series will be played at Hagley Oval in Christchurch. Finch said he is working on his technical part.



"I've been working a few technical things; trying to get a little bit less weight on my front foot. At times I can get a little bit flat-footed and my feet get planted then I struggle to move again - I have my initial movement then I get a little bit stuck," he said.



?I have talked a lot and worked quite a bit with Andrew McDonald, who has been my problem solver. Whenever I had some sort of issues or things doesn?t go right, I talk with him and he comes out with the solution pretty quick. It is really good to work on your body and investing in you.?

IPL 2021: Mumbai Indians coach Mahela Jayawardene in a recent interview said it is really disheartening that no Sri Lankan players were picked up in the recent IPL 2021 mini-auction. He further added that the players from Sri Lanka will have to lift their game and play beyond the expectations in order to get picked in the coming auction of the luxurious tournament.



Since the inception of the T20 extravaganza, Sri Lankan players have played a major role for the sides. The likes of Kumar Sangakarra, Mahela Jayawardene, Muttiah Muralitharan, Sanath Jayasuriya, T Dilshan and Chaminda Vaas have played the league for the most part of the cricketing careers. While IPL 2021 will be without the contributions of the island players.



Senior pacer Lasith Malinga who has been a prominent face for Mumbai Indians took retirement and Isuru Udana went unsold in the auction after RCB released him ahead of the auctions. Udana, Kusal Perera, Vijayakanth Vilasanti and Thisara Perera had registered their names for the Auctions but only Vijayakanth Vilasanti could make it to the final list of 298 players where he went unsold.



Mahela Jayawardene and Kumar Sangakarra will be the two Sri Lankan who will be the part of IPL 2021 as a coach.



"I think we still have the representation, so we're happy (joking about him and Sangakkara being in the IPL). But yeah, a bit disappointed. I'm sure a few of the guys were on the radar, but I think it's a tough place because you're looking at 20-odd slots for the overseas players and the majority of the slots were for those fast bowlers and all-rounders, which I think Sri Lanka lacks a little bit of that," ESPNcricinfo quoted Jayawardene as saying.



?I think the younger generation will come to play the tournament but till then it will be a disappointment and disheartening for us. IPL 2021: Veteran batsman Robin Uthappa expressed his desire to play alongside MS Dhoni in Chennai Super Kings in the recent video shared by him. The former Rajasthan Royals cricketer was traded to Chennai Super Kings a few weeks back in an all-cash deal. Representing the inaugural champions, Uthappa amassed 196 runs off 12 games.



In the recent video shared by the cricketer, he said getting picked by CSK is a dream come true. He further added that he had an extreme wish to play with MS Dhoni and win an IPL season before he retires.&nbsp;



"It is a little bit of a desire come true for me. It has been 12-13 years since I played alongside MS Dhoni and I've wanted to play and win a tournament with him before he retires," Uthappa said in a video tweeted by CSK.



Robin Uthappa was also part of the Indian T20 World Cup winnings squad in 2007 under MS Dhoni. In the tournament, the batsman scored 113 runs with a strike rate of 113 in South Africa.



Uthappa is the part of the Indian T20 League since its inception in 20018. In the 189 games, he has amassed 4607 runs at a strike rate of 130 including 24 half centuries.



CSK had a good IPL auction as what they wanted, they got from it. The steal of K Gowtham for INR 9.25 Crores is the highlight for CSK.



Along with K Gowtham, CSK also got Moeen Ali, Cheteshwar Pujara, Harisankar Reddy, K Bhagath Verma, and C. Hari Neeshanth at a reasonable price.



The franchise did not completely revamp the squad as expected but keeping in mind the intensity of the Auction, they have done fair work in the squad. CSK has its core intact with some experienced senior players.

IPL 2021: The inaugural champions on Sunday announced that the franchise has parted ways with head coach Andrew McDonald ahead of the Indian Premier League season. The decision comes after, RR appointed former Indian fielding coach Trevor Penny as their lead assistant coach.



The lead assistant coach will now work closely with the newly appointed director of cricket operations, Kumar Sangakkara for the upcoming season of IPL.



Rajasthan Royals have given Kumar Sangakkara the rights to revamp the coaching staff and clarified that he will be the decision-maker for the franchise. In the meantime, previous years batting coach of RR Amol Mazumdar is now appointed as the 'out-of-season High-Performance Batting coach.



"Trevor Penny will work closely with Royals' Director of Cricket, Kumar Sangakkara, captain Sanju Samson and the leadership team comprising the coaching staff: spin bowling coach Sairaj Bahatule, fast bowling coach Rob aseell, and fielding coach Dishant Yagnik alongside international senior players like Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler. Zubin Bharucha will be an integral part of this team in the role of Strategy, Development and Performance Director, feeding into Sangakkara, the decision-maker in the structure," the Royals said.



Andrew McDonald stepped into the cash-rich league with his unique coaching profile but the former could not take the Royals to success. Although the franchise saw the flashes of the same in the initial games last time.



Trevor Penny has worked with many national teams in past and is the regular face in Carrebian Premier League and Bangladesh Premier Leagues. Penny has also worked with Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) and Kolkata Knight Riders in the past.



The former champions have done massive changes to the squad whether it is on the management side or in the squad. It will be interesting to watch if the changes pay them off nicely in the upcoming season of IPL.

South Africa?s all-rounder Chris Morris shattered all the past records as he became the most expensive buy of IPL history. The mega event started silently with some of the big names going sold but it picked the pace with all the teams fighting hard to get the desired players.



Out of 292 players, 62 players got the bids in the IPL 2021 Auction, while there were some names that went unsold despite having tremendous records in the other leagues or for their respective national side.

<h2>3 Unsold players who can be picked later in the IPL 2021 tournaments</h2>



<h3>Aaron Finch:&nbsp;</h3>



The Aussie limited over skipper, Aaron Finch somehow failed to impress the single IPL franchises think-tank and he went unsold in the recent IPL auctions. Finch who is a regular name in the Indian T20 tournament has failed to find a permanent franchise.



Last year, Finch played for Virat Kohli led RCB and he was preferred for the opening spot. Although there were flashes of his good innings throughout the tournament, however, lack of consistency cost him the place as he was released from the squad one month back.



But the Australian skipper is capable of turning the table at any moment. Finch who has huge experience can be drafted in later in the tournament as franchises might need him.



<h3>Jason Roy:</h3>



The English opener was also not picked by the franchises in the recent IPL auction. Last time, the opener represented Delhi Daredevils in IPL and since then he has not featured in the cash-rich league.



While set in the crease he can smash the bowlers for fun and he has shown us that in the past, But his fluency against the spin might be the concern for the management. Roy is not a comfortable batsman against Spin that too in the subcontinent.



The English opener can be a choice for the franchises and can be brought midway through the tournament.

The star of the recent tenth season of the Big Bash League (BBL), Alex Hales was also not picked in the auctions. The right-handed batsman is in supreme form and has the ability to smack the bowlers around the park easily. Despite his runs, he also won the Golden Bat award in the BBL season 10.



The English batsman going unsold was not expected by the cricket pundits. He plays at number 3 for England national team in the ODIs. Hales can be a perfect choice of young flexible talent.

IPL 2021: Former Australian World Cup-winning captain, Michael Clarke questions Aaron FInch?s snuff in the recent IPL 2021 Auction. Talking in Sky Sports? Big Sports Breakfast, Clarke said either Australian selectors are wrong or every IPL franchise.



Finch who is a limited over skipper of Australia was released by Royal Challenger Bangalore ahead of the IPL 2021 Auctions. The opener went unsold in the auction as no franchises showed interest.



Finch will continue leading Australia in limited-overs in the five T20I games against New Zealand despite a poor form in the Big Bash League Season 10 (BBL).



<h2>Are the Australian selectors wrong?</h2>



Clarke said, either the Australian selectors are going wrong by keeping Aaron Finch as the limited over skipper or every IPL franchise as they let go the experienced player without a single bid.



?Are the Australian selectors wrong in Aaron Finch being our Twenty20 captain or is every IPL franchise wrong?? he was quoted as saying by Fox Cricket.



?In no sport on the planet can you captain Australia and miss out on a tournament with a truckload of teams. Don?t tell me Aaron Finch is not good enough to be a part of one of those IPL teams," Clarke added.



?I cannot believe Finchy hasn?t been picked up. Even for Finchy, that?s got to hurt as the Australian T20 captain. I think he?s still, definitely at the top of the order, one of the best in the world," he further said.



Marnus Labuschagne, Alex Carey, Shaun Marsh, Jason Behrendorff, Billy Stanlake, Matthew Wade, and James Faulkner were amongst the unsold players from Australia apart from Aaron Finch.

IPL 2021: SRH skipper David Warner doubtful for IPL 2021.



IPL 2021 - SRH skipper David Warner: Australian explosive left-handed batsman and Sunrisers Hyderabad skipper David Warner is doubtful for participation in the upcoming Indian T20 extravaganza. Warner sustained a groin injury during the India-Australia 2nd ODI game following which he was ruled out for the whole T20I series and first two test games.



Although the dashing opener returned to the field in the penultimate test match against India, but there was clearly a sign of a slight niggle. Warner was not fully recovered from his injury and was not agile in the filed.



<h2>It could take at least nine months: David Warner</h2>



According to David Warner, his groin injury could take a few more months to recover fully. He is completing his rehab program.



?Next week I?ll be picking up throwing. That was very difficult the last couple of weeks, even trying to throw. Now it?s all about lateral movement ? running between the wickets. It?s going to aggravate me for the next six to nine months. But I?m sure the medicos will help me out there,? Warner said.



As his rehab program could last somewhere around nine months, he might miss the upcoming IPL season. Cricket Australia will also be concerned about the player?s fitness as ICC T20 World Cup is not far and they want him to be fit by that time. CA might restrict the player to take part in the IPL and complete the rehab and be fit for the T20 World Cup later this year.



?I have spoken to a few people that have actually had that type of injury and they have just said it?s a niggle. You have just got to teach your brain to not worry about the pain and that it?s not going to happen again. It?s just getting back that confidence to sidestep and run as hard as I can and dive around again. Once I get that, I will be right to go. It?s just not 100% there yet,? Warner said.



Warner might not get the NOC (No Objection Certificate) from Cricket Australia for the IPL season. This could be a huge problem for SRH management. Although they will be relaxed from the captaincy point of view as Kane Williamson will be there. But Warner?s absence could lead to a disbalance of the squad as they will have to put someone up to the opening slot along with Wridhiman Saha.
