RSA vs IND T20I: South African pacer Lungi Ngidi Ruled out of T20I series against India

RSA vs IND T20I: South Africa have copped a blow to their upcoming T20I campaign against India with an injury to the senior pacer, Lungi Ngidi. The speedster has been ruled out of the three-match T20I series between South Africa and India after suffering an ankle sprain.

South Africa and India are scheduled to lock horns for the first of the three-match T20I series on Sunday (December 10) in Durban. The second and third fixtures of the RSA vs IND T20I series will be held in Gqeberha and Johannesburg on December 12 and 14 respectively.

Lungi Ngidi suffered an ankle sprain on his left leg which resulted in him keeping him out of the upcoming South Africa vs India contest. The injury concern also cast doubts on his participation in the forthcoming South Africa vs India two-game Test series.

The absence of Ngidi has become a headache for the Proteas, who are already short on their lineup. Regular pacer Kagiso Rabada has been rested for the T20I series against India while Anrich Nortje is unavailable for selection due to his injury concerns.

The South African Cricket Board has subsequently drafted in Beuran Hendricks, who last played a T20I game in 2021, as a replacement for Lungi Ngidi.

Beuran Hendricks will join the bandwagon of Ottniel Baartman, Nandre Burger, Gerald Coetzee and Lizaad Williams, who are fairly young to the senior South African side.

In his 19 T20I appearances in T20I, after making his debut in 2014, Beuran Hendricks has scalped 25 wickets with an expensive economy of 9.19. The left-arm seamer has a four-wicket haul to his name as well. His last T20I assignment came against Ireland in 2021 where he returned wicketless.
