Rohit Sharma OUT! Mumbai Announces Vijay Hazare Trophy Squad Without Big Indian Stars

The Indians Star Players Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal have not been named in Mumbai’s squad after the Mumbai Cricket Association’s announcement for the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26, which is scheduled to start from December 24, 2025. Rohit Sharma last played the Vijay Hazare Trophy for Mumbai back in 2018.

Along with Rohit Sharma and Yashavsi Jaiswal, India T20 Captain Suryakumar Yadav and all-rounder Shivam Dube are also missing from the squad. Mumbai will begin their Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26 campaign on December 24, 2025, against Punjab, as they are in Elite Group C, and all their matches are scheduled to be played in Jaipur.

Why are Rohit Sharma and Jaiswal not in the Squad?

According to reports, the absence of these senior and young Indian players does not mean they are ruled out of the tournament. Mumbai’s senior selection committee chairman Sanjay Patil clarified that Indian international players will be included in the squad only when they are available.

He also added that adding these players into the squad, who will not be unavailable for the most part of the tournament, will impact the young domestic players' opportunities. However, once these players are free from national duties or don't have any fitness issues, then they can be added to the squad later.

Yashasvi Jasiwal’s Fitness is a key factor:

Yashasvi Jaiswal was expected to be part of Mumbai’s squad in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, but recently, he was hospitalised due to acute gastroenteritis after Mumbai’s last Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) match.

However, Yashasvi Jaiswal has been discharged, but doctors have advised rest and expect to be unavailable for a couple of days.

Shardul Thakur to Lead Mumbai

With some senior star players missing, Shardul Thakur will be leading Mumbai in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26. Safaraz Khan is also in the squad; he played exceptional cricket in the recent Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, as he scored 329 runs at an average of 65.80.
