Rohit Sharma is the man behind Kuldeep Yadav’s resurgence in the IPL 2022, says, his childhood coach: Chinaman spinner, Kuldeep Yadav’s coach, Kapil Dev Pandey has credited team India’s new skipper Rohit Sharma for Kuldeep’s resurgence in the ongoing Tata Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. Mr Pandey also heaped praises on Delhi Capitals skipper Rishabh Pant and head coach Ricky Ponting for handling Kuldeep Yadav so brilliantly.
Notably, for Kuldeep Yadav, a change in the franchise after the IPL 2021 has brought his fortunes back. The spinner is currently with Delhi Capitals, after he was released by KKR ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction, and is placed second in the list of leading wicket-takers.
Delhi Capitals bagged the services of Kuldeep Yadav at a base price of INR 2 Crores during the player auctions held in February.
Kapil Dev Pandey in an interview with the Times of India revealed how Rohit Sharma, who is the current Indian skipper, backed Kuldeep Yadav while Virat Kohli preferred Axar Patel due to his superior batting skill set.
“Rohit kept a close eye on Kuldeep, his Yo-Yo Test and rehab reports. Rohit should be credited for Kuldeep’s comeback. He wouldn’t have been here today without the support of Rohit, Pant and Ponting. Every captain has their own style of captaining and picking players. Kuldeep played a lot of cricket under Virat. Virat wants experience in the side. He went with Ashwin and Jadeja. He preferred Axar ahead of Kuldeep because of Axar’s batting capabilities. A captain has to trust his players,” Pandey said.
Rohit Sharma, soon after he became the Indian skipper, called Kuldeep Yadav back on the Indian side against West Indies. Yadav got a solitary opportunity in the ODI against West Indies and he scalped two wickets.
“Whenever captains trusted him, Kuldeep delivered. He has a good record in Tests. He has two hat-tricks in ODIs. He has a good T20I record. But still, he didn’t get enough opportunities. This is really shocking. Kuldeep’s career is protected because of Rohit Sharma. Rohit is the man behind Kuldeep’s resurgence. He is a fantastic captain and he knows how to find talent in a big group of players. Ahead of the IPL, Rohit called Kuldeep and gave him the chance (against the West Indies). Kuldeep delivered too by taking two wickets,” Pandey told timesofindia.com.
Kuldeep Yadav’s current performance in the Tata IPL 2022 will surely help him to get back into the Indian side. The spinner has got the confidence and all the support he requires from the Delhi Capitals management. The wrist-spinner has already scalped 17 wickets in nine outings in the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League.
