Rishabh Pant ruled out from cricket for most of 2023: Reports

Rishabh Pant Car Accident: Team India's wicketkeeper batter Rishabh Pant, who miraculously escaped a horrifying car accident, is expected to be out of cricketing action for at least six months. A few reports also claimed that the cricketer could miss the entire cricketing calendar in 2023 owing to the injuries he has suffered on his knee.

Rishabh Pant met a spine-chilling accident in the wee hours of 30th December, when he was driving back home to meet his family in Roorkee. His car rammed into the road dividers before catching fire near Roorkee. He was immediately taken to a local hospital for primary care, before shifting to Max Hospital in Dehradun.

A week ago, the cricketer was airlifted to Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai at BCCI's behest. Being, India's one of the top contracted players, Pant is now under the direct supervision of Dr Dinshaw Pardiwala, who is one of the specialist surgeons contracted by the board.

As per the latest medical report, Rishabh Pant has torn all three major ligaments in his knee which largely contributes to the stability and movements. Two of the three torn ligaments have been reconstructed by surgical procedures, however, the surgery for the third one is yet to be done. Pant will have to wait for at least six more weeks before he undergoes another surgical procedure to fix his third torn ligament.

So far, the doctors have refrained from putting a timeline on Pant's recovery time period, but the cricketer is very likely to miss a lot of international action in 2023. He will be sidelined for the upcoming Border Gavaskar Trophy, Indian Premier League (IPL) and ODI World Cup 2023, which will be held in October-November.

A few reports also claimed that the 25-year-old cricketer might have to sit out for at least 18 months before making his comeback. Since he is a wicketkeeper, he will have to work a lot on his knee movements and strengths.

?We need to understand that he is a keeper so his movements ? regular squatting, sideways movements and all ? put a lot of load on the knee. We can?t rush with it and it is going to take a lot of time,? a source close to the developments said.

Following all his surgical procedures, Rishabh Pant will head to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore to undergo his rehabilitation program.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently announced squads for the upcoming T20I series against New Zealand and for the Border Gavaskar Trophy. Rishabh hasn't been named in any of the squads.
