County Championship 2021: R Ashwin to play for Surrey in the County Championship 2021.

County Championship 2021: Team India’s ace spinner R Ashwin is confirmed to play for Surrey in the ongoing County Championship 2021 at the Oval on Sunday. 

The match against Somerset will be Ashwin’s maiden first-class game for Surrey. 

It is noteworthy that the cricketer has featured for Nottinghamshire and Worcestershire in the past and has done exceptionally well for both teams.

The match will help the tweaker in getting prepared for upcoming India vs England red ball series, which will embark on the beginning of the ICC World Test Championship second cycle.

The fourth test match between India and England will be held in the Oval, where Ashwin’s Surrey is playing against Somerset.

Currently, all the Indian cricketers in England are on a short break of almost three weeks and have fresh air. The players will begin regrouping on July 14th and start having training sessions for the England series.

Ashwin in the video shared by Surrey said that he is delighted to play for Surrey even if it is for just a single game.

“I am so privileged to be having the badge on. I have heard and wondered what the London counties are all about. Even though it’s only for a game, I am delighted to share this dressing room,” Ashwin said in a video shared by Surrey.

Ravichandran Ashwin replaced Aussie pacer, Sean Abbott, in Surrey as the second overseas cricketer. Abbott was sidelined due to injury issues.

In the match between Surrey and Somerset till now, Ashwin has scalped a wicket of Tom Lammonby.
