PSL is Bigger Than IPL? Faf du Plessis Chooses PSL Over IPL After 14 Iconic Seasons
The South African legend Faf du Plessis has officially announced that he will not take part in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. Faf du Plessis has played for big IPL teams like Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and shared a heartfelt message that he wants to “try a new challenge”.
Faf du Plessis opted out of the IPL 2026 and chose PSL over IPL. He will be playing in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2026, which is expected to be played in the same window as the IPL. Faf du Plessis has been one of the most consistent overseas players in IPL history and has played for around 14 years in this tournament.
However, after having a disappointing season with only 202 runs, Delhi Capitals (DC) decided to release Faf du Plessis ahead of the IPL 2026 Mini Auction. DC bought Faf at a price of Rs 2.00 crore in the IPL 2025 Mega Auction, but couldn’t justify the price with his performance.
Faf du Plessis' Emotional Message for IPL Fans:
While announcing his decision, Faf posted a long, emotional message to the IPL fans, the franchise for whom he represented in these years.
He wrote, “After 14 seasons in the IPL, I have decided not to put my name into the auction this year. This league has been a massive part of my journey. India has given me friendships, lessons, and memories that have shaped me as a cricketer and as a person.”
