Pacer Jasprit Bumrah says Shane Bond has played a key role in shaping him.

Mumbai Indians (MI) and India’s ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah said that his IPL franchise bowling coach Shane Bond has helped him a lot and has shaped his international career to a whole new level.

Shane Bond has been Mumbai Indians (MI) bowling coach for over 6 years and has trained a lot of pacers under his eyes. One prime example is Jasprit Bumrah.

Bumrah will lead India’s attack against New Zealand in the final of the ICC World Test Championship at Rose Bowl Stadium, Southampton. The pacer shared his views in a video shared by Mumbai Indians (MI) on social media on the training with Shane Bond.

“I always try to talk to him even when I am not here and with the Indian team. So, it’s been a good journey, and hopefully, every year I keep learning something new and try to add new things to my bowling.

“He has played a major role in that. It’s been a great relationship so far, and hopefully, this continues for many many years to come,” Bumrah said.

Bumrah further said that he watched him while growing up and was always fascinated with the way Bond bowled in his time.

“I met him (Bond) for the first time in 2015. As a child, I had seen him bowl and was always very fascinated by how he used to bowl for New Zealand, and how he used to operate,” the India pacer said.

The 27-years old cricketer said that Bond helped him in sharpening his skills and broadening the horizons which in turn helped him excel in his international career.

“When I met him over here, it was a good experience. He helped me a lot to open my mind to different things that I could try on the cricket field. So that was very good and that relationship has only gotten better each and every year,” added the Gujarat pacer.

Shane Bond who himself has played international cricket for a long time feels that Jasprit Bumrah is one of the finest death ball bowlers in the international format.

Mumbai Indians (MI) New Zealand pace recruits also praised the coaching of Shane Bond.

“ He is a tremendous thinker of the game and a pretty good tactician,” said Trent Boult.

“He has been there for a long time now and knows exactly what he is doing. He makes sure that the bowlers are equipped with enough information that they can make right decisions at that particular moment. Really enjoyed working with him,” added Trent Boult.
