West Indies won the first T20I match against New Zealand at Eden Park by 7 runs; they created history by defending the lowest target at this venue. The Player of the match was Roston Chase as he scored 28 (27) and took three wickets. West Indies stunned New Zealand; they played excellent cricket with both bat and ball.
West Indies batted first, but they struggled in the opening overs and lost a few wickets. But later, captain Shai Hope played an impressive knock of 53 runs in 39 balls. Roston Chase and Rovman Powell scored 28 and 33 runs, respectively, and the West Indies set a decent 164 target in 20 overs.
However, New Zealand had a decent start, but except for skipper Mitchell Santner, no other batter played 30+ innings in this match. Santner scored 55 runs in just 28 balls but lost the match in a close contest. West Indies bowler Jayden Seales and Roston Chase bowled and took three wickets each.
It was a good game between the West Indies and New Zealand. New Zealand had home advantage as the match was played in Auckland, but West Indies' batter and bowlers outsmarted the Kiwi players.

After winning the toss, New Zealand bowl first, West Indies came to bat, and they had a slow start in the powerplay and lost wickets. But, later on, Skipper Shai Hope stood and showed good cricketing skills against the Kiwi bowlers. He played an impressive knock of 53 runs off 39 balls at a strike rate of 135.90.
Roston Chase and Rovman Powell supported the skipper from the other end with their small but impactful innings of 28 and 33 runs, respectively. However, their inning ended the same way as it had started. New Zealand bowlers could have done a better job, especially in the middle overs.
Despite getting the early momentum, they failed to get wickets in the middle-overs and led West Indies to have a decent target of 164 runs. Jacob Duffy and Zakary Foulkes took two wickets each whereas both Kyle Jamieson and James Neeshan got one wicket.
In the second Inning, New Zealand had to chase 165 runs, but they failed to chase the target in a close contest. Tim Robinson and Devon Conway started the inning in aggressive mode, but it couldn’t last long, and they got out by scoring 27 and 14 runs, respectively.
Then, Rachin Ravindra tried to make partnerships, but he also lost his wicket by scoring just 21 runs off 19 balls. Then, New Zealand lost back-to-back wickets and their middle got collapsed. In the end, Skipper Mitchell Santner played a superb inning of 55 runs at a strike rate of 196.43.
But he failed to lead his team to victory. West Indies bowlers did an excellent job, especially in the middle overs. Jayden Seales and Roston Chase took three wickets each, whereas Akesl Hossein, Matthew Forde, and Romario Shepherd took one wicket each.
