IPL: As the excitement for the 16th edition of the IPL is building on, the former Indian cricketer Wasim Jaffer has named his all-time IPL playing XI. The team comprises of stalwarts but what was surprising is that the Ranji Trophy Legend didn’t pick the most successful IPL skipper Rohit Sharma in his team.

Jaffer picked Universe boss Chris Gayle as one of the two openers in his all-time IPL XI. The left-hander has been a legend of the game and has contributed significantly to the league. Having played 142 matches in the league, the batter has scored 4965 runs in the league to go with 6 centuries and 31 half-centuries to his name with the highest score of 175* runs. Along with him, Jaffer picked KL Rahul to open the batting. The Indian batter since the last few seasons has been the best player in the league and has been consistently scoring runs.

At No.3 and 4, Jaffer picked Virat Kohli and Suresh Raina. While Kohli is still going strong, the southpaw, who is known as Mr IPL, called time on his career ahead of the last season. Both of them have been mainstays of their respective teams and have piled up truckloads of runs. Raina and Kohli are amongst the leading run-getters in the tournament and have over 5000 runs to their name.

MS Dhoni will be the keeper and captain of the Jaffer’s all-time IPL XI. The CSK skipper has been the best skipper and finisher in the game of cricket and has been the legend of the league as well. The former Indian cricketer then picked Hardik Pandya and Andre Russell as the two fast-bowling all-rounders in the team. The hard-hitting duo has won games from the jaws of defeat for their side.

R Ashwin and Rashid Khan are two spin-bowling all-rounders in the side along with Yuzvendra Chahal as the third spinning option. The spin trio is among the leading wicket-takers in the league and has rattled the opposition’s batting lineup. Whereas the lynchpin of Mumbai Indians’ bowling lineup Jasprit Bumrah and Lasith Malinga are the two front-line pacers in the team.
