Multan Sultans vs PCB: Franchise Pushes for Major PSL Reforms - Here’s What They Want

The Multan Sultans franchise has openly called for major reforms in the Pakistan Super League (PSL). This bold move by Multan sparked a new storm between franchise owners and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) over how the league should be managed and improved in the upcoming seasons.

Later this month, Multan Sultans owner Ali Tareen went viral on social media for publicly tearing up a PCB legal notice. However, he sent a detailed letter to PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi and urged all parties to move forward for the PSL’s long-term benefit. 

Ali Tareen, in his letter, had some proposals to reform PSL. He aimed to professionalise PSL governance, boost transparency and establish clear lines of partnership between the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and all the franchises. 

Four Key Proposals from Multan Sultans:

Franchise Representation on PSL Committees:

Sultans want each franchise to have a voice in PSL’s main committee, specifically in scheduling, recruitment, ticketing, marketing and match-day operations. This move will create a collaborative structure and give all franchises a greater stake in PSL’s decision-making.

Structured, Merit-Based Hiring:

The franchise recommends transparent and professional hiring processes for all senior PSL roles. Despite only relying on current or previous PCB staff, they want new industry experts so that the best talent can work together to make this league better.

Professional Management Framework:

Multan Sultans demanded the creation of a clear organisational structure for the Pakistan Super League, which should have defined departments handling operations, fan engagement, marketing, player affairs, and finance. 

Regular Information-Sharing Meetings:

They proposed monthly meetings between the PCB and all franchises, where all agendas should be circulated in advance. These sessions need to ensure transparency, communication and track progress through reviewed action points.

Multan Sultans owner Ali Tareen’s proposal is very crucial for taking PSL to the next level. The current system is facing lots of issues, from limited management expertise to unstructured decisions, which impact the league’s growth. 

If there is professionalism, stronger partnerships between the Board and franchises, and proper accountability, then they can make the Pakistan Super League globally competitive.
