IPL 2021: Mitchell Starc opens-up about pulling back from IPL 2021

IPL 2021: Australia’s senior pacer Mitchell Starc is out of the Indian cash rich T20 League for quite some time now. The cricketer was last time seen in IPL back in 2015 however since then he is away from the competition. Sometimes injuries force him to pull back while sometimes it is the to manage the workload. Everyone opined that Starc will make his comeback in the elite competition in the upcoming season however he once again pulled back from the IPL.

It was a bit surprising for the fans and cricket pundits when he disclosed his decision to opt-out of IPL 2021. Recently Starc in a conversation with cricket.com.au revealed why he withdrew his name from the IPL 2021. He said his interests are more towards playing red-ball cricket in the Sheffield Shield Trophy is Australia.

“I wanted to play as much Shield cricket as I could. Managing a few little things with the body and wanting to play as much red-ball cricket as I could with certain guys heading off to the IPL, it was my intention to be the constant in the Shield team and hopefully play the role there as a senior head in the team” Starc told cricket.com.au, explaining his decision to skip the IPL.

Winning the Shield is pinnacle for me:

The Australian pacer Mitchell Starc plays for New South Wales in the Sheffield Shield Trophy. Thus far in the 5 games, New South Wales is sitting in the top two spots in the ranks table with 29 points. Starc hasn’t played any final of the Trophy and wants to do that for the boys.

“I haven’t played the final in the Shield Trophy yet. I want to do it this time, want to be a part of the squad and take boys to the final and even be the part of the winning group. So far in my career, I have played all three formats and I think my gameplan doesn’t change much across the format but still, Shield and Test match cricket is the pinnacle for me,” Starc concluded
