Limited overs series against West Indies will be played in Ahmedabad and Kolkata only.

INDvsWI: The upcoming three matches ODI and as many games T20I series between India and West Indies is likely to be played in two venues of the country. Owing to the covid surge in India, the BCCI has been forced to tweak its initial plans and host West Indies in just two venues – Ahmedabad and Kolkata.

Initially, the West Indies tour of India was scheduled in six different cities across India as the COVID situation seemed encouraging. However, the recent increase in the cases has prompted the BCCI officials to change the plans and host the entire series in two venues.

“The tours and fixtures committee of the BCCI held a meeting today. It was initially thought that the series could be played in multiple venues.”

“However, due to the covid situation, the committee has recommended that the white-ball series will now only be played in two venues — Ahmedabad and Kolkata,” a source in the BCCI told on Wednesday.

The revised fixtures and schedule will be announced by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in a day or two.

The three matches ODI series was initially planned to begin on February 6th in the newly revamped Narendra Modi Stadium. The two sides were then scheduled to travel to Jaipur and Kolkata for the rest two ODIs on February 9 and 12 respectively.

The T20I series was scheduled to kickstart on 15th February in Cuttack while the other two fixtures were slated to be held in Vishakhapatnam and Thiruvananthapuram on February 18 and 20 respectively.

As per the recent reports, Rohit Sharma, the new Indian limited-overs skipper, is likely to be fit for the home series against West Indies. Sharma sustained a hamstring injury owing to which he was ruled out of the tour of South Africa which include the Test and ODI series.
