Jasprit Bumrah ruled out of the Asia Cup 2022 due to back injury: Reports: In a massive setback to the Indian team, Jasprit Bumrah is set to be ruled out of the upcoming Asia Cup 2022 after suffering a back injury. The extent of the injury is unknown, but the sources in the know of development confirm that Bumrah will have to sit out of the six-nation continental tournament.

Notably, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) was supposed to announce India’s squad for the Asia Cup 2022 on Monday, however, so far there is no update on the team. There is also a lack of clarity on whether the announcement will be made today or not.

There are still doubts about how Jasprit Bumrah sustained the injury. He is currently in the United States of America, enjoying holidays with his family and friends.

“Jasprit Bumrah has a back injury and will not play in the Asia Cup. He is our main bowler and we would like him to be back in action before T20 World Cup. We can’t risk him in Asia Cup and the injury could aggravate,” a senior BCCI official told PTI on the condition of anonymity.

The ace Indian pacer last played against England in the ODI series in July and since then he has been rested for the following series. Bumrah didn’t feature in the rubber against West Indies and was not included in the squad touring Zimbabwe to be fresh for the Asia Cup 2022.

Jasprit Bumrah will now require a few months of the intense rehabilitation program at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) Bangalore. In all likelihood, he will be fit for the home T20I series against Australia and South Africa in September-October.

Importantly, Bumrah’s absence from the Asia Cup 2022 will be a huge disappointment for the Men in Blue. He is a vital cog in the Indian lineup and an important member of the bowling unit. Moreover, following his recovery, he will need some practice games upfront to get into the groove for the high-pressure T20 World Cup 2022.

The official statement for the same is yet to come from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
