IPL 2026: MS Dhoni to leave CSK mid-way if Sanju Samson trade happens? Check full details

Former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif has come up with a bold statement amid the trade talks between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) over Sanju Samson and Ravindra Jadeja. He said that if Sanju comes to CSK then there are chances that MS Dhoni might leave the team midway. 

The trade between CSK and RR is almost finalised as the talks are in the final stages. As part of the trade, Sanju Samson will move to CSK, while Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran will be going to RR in what will be the biggest trade in the league.

CSK have been desperate to get Sanju Samson in the mix. This is because MS Dhoni is in the final stages of his career and Samson will act as a perfect replacement for him. Also, him bringing in captaincy factor with him as well, he would fill in the void left by Dhoni.

As CSK-RR talks are underway, Mohammad Kaif feels that if trade happens then IPL 2026 could be the last season for MS Dhoni in the league. He also added that is Sanju Samson settles well then Dhoni might leave mid-way. Speaking in a video posted on his YouTube channel, he said:

"Both players started their IPL careers in 2008. Since joining CSK, Dhoni has never left the franchise. If this trade happens, it could be his last season — maybe even one he doesn't finish. If Sanju settles well with the team and management, Dhoni could hand him the reins," Kaif

Mohammed Kaif also added that MS Dhoni is ready to sacrifice Jadeja to bring the future captain. He added: 

"Jadeja tried captaincy but wasn't comfortable. Not everyone can lead in the IPL. Dhoni's long-term vision seems clear - he's ready to give up Jadeja to bring in a future captain.”

It remains to be seen when the official confirmation related to the trade between the teams will be made.
