IPL 2024: Ahead of the Tata Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) has decided to do some tweaks in its coaching department. The former IPL champions have replaced legendary batter Brian Lara from the coaching staff for the upcoming seasons of the IPL following an utterly disappointing campaign in the last edition.

SRH, on Monday, announced its decision to part ways with head coach Brian Lara after the team finished with a wooden spoon in the Tata IPL 2023. They could only manage to win four games in the group stages in the 10-team tournament.

Along with the sacking of Brian Lara, the 2016 IPL champions announced the appointment of former New Zealand cricketer Daniel Vettori as the new head coach of the team.

“Kiwi legend Daniel Vettori joins the #OrangeArmy as Head Coach. Welcome, coach!” wrote SRH across its social media handles as it announced the new head coach.

The franchise also thanked Brian Lara for his 2-year service to the team and wished him all the luck for his future endeavours.

“As our 2-year association with Brian Lara comes to an end, we bid adieu to him. Thank you for your contributions to the Sunrisers. We wish you all the best for your future endeavours.”

Notably, Vettori had served the Virat Kohli starrer side, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), from IPL 2014 to 2018. Under his watchful eyes, RCB went on to play their only IPL final in 2016, which they lost against Sunrisers Hyderabad by 8 runs.

The Kiwi legend has rich experience in coaching. He has worked with Bangladesh’s national team as a bowling consultant. He is also associated with the Australian cricket team since May 2022 as the assistant coach.

Currently, the former New Zealand captain is assuming the head coach’s role for Birmingham Phoenix, a side in England’s premier league ‘The Hundred.’

Interstingly, SRH will be working with the fourth head coach in the last six seasons of the Indian Premier League (IPL). They had the services of Tom Moody (2019 and 2022), Trevor Bayliss (2020 and 2021) and Brian Lara (2023).

In the last three seasons of the IPL, SRH has been one of the most disappointing teams in the tournament. They finished last in the IPL 2021, eighth in the IPL 2022 (10-teams) and at the bottom in the recently held season of the IPL.

Their best season came under David Warner’s captaincy in 2016 when they finished third in the league stages and eventually ended up winning the IPL title.
