The last edition of the Indian T20 League was won by Gujarat Titans (GT) under the leadership of Hardik Pandya. The Titans trumped inaugural champions, Rajasthan Royals (RR), in the final to lift the coveted glory.

Notably, Gujarat Titans is one of the two new teams added by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), last year. Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) was the other team that got inducted into the existing group of eight teams ahead of the IPL 2022.

The perennial champions, Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Mumbai Indians (MI) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), of the Indian Premier League (IPL), faced a tough time faring in the Tata IPL 2022 against the likes of GT, LSG, and RR among others.

However, all the sides will be looking to up their game in the upcoming season of the elite T20 league. The competition will be greater than ever as players brace themselves for a bigger challenge.

IPL 2023 Auction Date and Time:

So far, no official update has been rolled out by the BCCI or the IPL on the IPL 2023 Auction Date and Time, but, sources who have their ear next to the IPL governing council have reported that the IPL 2023 Auction will be held on December 16, 2022.

Three venues have been shortlisted by the BCCI for the IPL 2023 Auctions which are – Turkey, Bangalore and Istanbul.

There are certain sets of rules put in place by the governing body for the IPL auctions. It’s important to note that the upcoming IPL auction will not be as big as it was in the last year.

The franchises will have the liberty to retain most of their players for the next season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). There will be a release and purchase of only a few players in each squad.

  • Each Franchise will have a total purse value of INR 95 Lakhs. No franchise will be entitled to expend more than the allocated purse value.
  • A minimum of 75 per cent of the purse value must be used in building the squad.
  • A team can’t have more than 25 players in the squad.
  • A team – 1: Can have a maximum of 25 Indian Players
  • 2: Or a minimum of 17 Indian Players
  • 3: Can have a maximum of 8 overseas players.
  • There will be no use of the Right To Match (RTM) Card during the auction process.

IPL 2023 Trading Window:

A trading window will be opened by the BCCI in November, before the IPL 2023 auctions. The franchises can mutually decide to trade players back and forth according to their needs to bolster their squad. The trade between the teams can be either in a Player to Player Deal or an all-cash deal.

Usually, the BCCI opens the trading window a month prior to the IPL auctions.
