Less than three days are for the much anticipated Mega Auction of TATA IPL 2022. It will take place on 12th and 13th February in Bengaluru. The teams have already made their respective lists of target players ahead of the Mega event and fans can’t wait to see which players their teams will buy.
In this article, we shall be talking about 3 Players that every IPL franchise must buy in the Mega Auction. The set of three players mentioned are different for every IPL franchise depending on their needs.
Chennai Super Kings
CSK have always targeted to bring back their core team members back to the squad in Mega Auctions and they must aim to do so this year as well. Here are 3 players that CSK must buy:-
1. Shardul Thakur – In the recent past, Shardul Thakur has proven to be a valuable asset for any team that he plays for. Shardul Thakur has developed himself to be an all-rounder and having added his batting skills with his already brilliant bowling, he will be a desirable selection for any team. CSK already have an all-rounder in Ravindra Jadeja and Shardul might be their second all-rounder. Therefore they will definitely want to bring him back.
2. Deepak Chahar – Here is another player who Chennai Super Kings will try to get back. Deepak Chahar has been MS Dhoni’s man of trust for the last few seasons and he has been extremely useful for them. He can bowl at any position and in the last year he too has worked on his batting skills. Deepak Chahar is thus worth bidding on.
3. Yuzvendra Chahal – Yuzvendra Chahal showed his interest in playing for Chennai Super Kings under the captaincy of Mahendra Singh Dhoni and CSK will probably try to make it happen seeing his current form. Mumbai Indians
Just like CSK, Mumbai Indians also try to buy as many core team players as possible in Mega Auctions but that will probably not be possible for them this season. The best they can do is bring back one player. Here are 3 players that Mumbai must try to buy in the Mega Auction.
1. Kagiso Rabada – Mumbai have already lost Trent Boult and they are in dire need of a quality pacer. The only overseas fast bowler who can be compared to Trent Boult at this moment is Kagiso Rabada. He is in tremendous form and Mumbai Indians will try hard to buy him.
2. Ishan Kishan – Ishan Kishan is the only player that Mumbai Indians will possibly get a chance of bringing back to their squad but the competition they will get is tremendous. Ishan Kishan was simply phenomenal in the last few matches of IPL 2021 and we all know his quality. Mumbai Indians will do all it takes to sign their former player.
3. Shikhar Dhawan – With Quinton de Kock gone, Mumbai Indians are in search of an opener and who better than Shikhar Dhawan to fill in that spot ! Shikhar Dhawan has been in tremendous form lately and he is criminally underrated. Mumbai Indians can sign him for a cut price.
Royal Challengers Bangalore
Here are three players that RCB must buy in the Mega Auction:-
1. David Warner – As we all know, Virat Kohli has stepped down from captaincy this season and RCB have to find a deserving alternative captain. The only IPL winning captain who is available in the Mega Auction is David Warner. Warner is also in a brilliant form himself and RCB will definitely try to buy him.
2. Trent Boult – Royal Challengers Bangalore has always suffered due to their poor bowling performances and with everything being built from ground zero this season, they will try to do away with that. Trent Boult is undoubtedly the best bowler money can buy in the Mega Auction this season and they will try to get hold of him.
3. Quinton de Kock – RCB is also in search of a wicket keeper and Quinton de Kock can be just the guy he needs. He will be the 4th overseas player in their playing XI. Quinton de Kock is a tested player in the IPL and RCB can trust him fully.
Kolkata Knight Riders
Here are three player that KKR must buy in the Mega Auction:-
1. Shreyas Iyer – Kolkata Knight Riders have been reportedly interested in signing the former Delhi Capitals captain for a long time now. They have suffered due to wrong captaincy choices in the last few seasons and they would not want to repeat the same mistake this year as well. Shreyas Iyer is a proven captain in the IPL and they would do everything in their power to buy him.
2. Harshal Patel – Harshal Patel was the Purple cap winner of IPL 2021 and he broke many records last season. It was shocking that RCB did not retain him but now KKR have a great opportunity to fill their starting XI with in-form Harshal Patel. They are in need of a pacer and Harshal Patel will be a perfect fit.
3. Jonny Bairstow – With Shubman Gill gone, KKR need an opener as well and Jonny Bairstow is one of the best power hitting openers in T20 in the world right now. He is underrated and KKR can get him for a fairly cheap price.
Punjab Kings
Here are three players that Punjab Kings must buy:-
1. Pat Cummins – Although no one else is considering it, Pat Cummins is the captain of the Australian Test team now and the Aussies did great in the Ashes under his captaincy. He can prove to be a great captain for Punjab Kings who are in need of a leader.
Pat Cummins is one of the best pacers in the world right now as well and it will indeed be a great signing for Punjab Kings.
2. Devdutt Padikkal – Punjab needs an opening partner for Mayank Agarwal and Devdutt Padikkal might be the solution for all their troubles. He is fairly young and underrated – so not many teams will be bidding high for him and Punjab might get him at a cut price. Padikkal has great potential and he can shine in the PBKS setup.
3. Mitchell Marsh – Punjab Kings have the highest remaining purse among all the franchises and thus they will probably be the ones to land Mitchell Marsh. Mitchell Marsh was one of the best performers in T20 cricket in the year 2021. He was brilliant both in the BBL and the T20 World Cup and he won the T20WC for Australia with a brilliant knock in the final. He is an all-rounder and will probably be one of the costliest players of IPL 2022. PBKS can land him easily.
Rajasthan Royals
Here are three players that Rajasthan Royals must buy in the Mega Auction:-
1. Rahul Tripathi – Rahul Tripathi was one of the most underrated performers of IPL 2021. Along with Venkatesh Iyer, Tripathi took KKR single handedly to the final last year. Unfortunately he could not play in the final due to an injury but he proved his potential definitely. He will be a great signing for Rajasthan Royals
2. Kartik Tyagi – Kartik Tyagi was in the Rajasthan Royals squad last season and he showed great potential. Sadly an injury ruled him out of almost the entire season. He is now recovered though and if Rajasthan Royals can get him for less than 4 crores, it will be a no brainer deal for the 2008 IPL winners.
3. Rahul Chahar – Rajasthan Royals have struggled with the unavailability of a quality spinner over the years, They can finally break that chain this year by buying someone like Rahul Chahar. Rahul Chahar was Mumbai Indians’ best spin bowler for the last few years and he will definitely shine with Rajasthan as well.
Sunrisers Hyderabad
Here are three players that Sunrisers Hyderabad must buy in the Mega Auction:-
1. Lockie Ferguson – Sunrisers Hyderabad have always been a pace bowling oriented team and thus Lockie Ferguson will be a perfect signing for them. He is one of the deadliest fast bowlers in the world right now. Sadly he missed the 2021 T20 World Cup owing to an injury. However he is back now and he will surely rule IPL 2022.
2. Matthew Wade – The Australian Wicket-keeper was exceptional in the T20 World Cup and he showed the world what he is capable of. Sunrisers Hyderabad are also in need of a wicket keeper and Finisher. They will get both in Matthew Wade.
3. Mohammad Shami – Another fast bowler that Sunrisers Hyderabad will be eager to get their hands on. Mohammad Shami is arguably the best Indian pacer out there currently and he will surely be on the list of Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Delhi Capitals
Here are three players that Delhi Capitals must buy in the Mega Auction:-
Faf du Plessis – Faf du Plessis was the second highest run scorer of IPL 2021 and it was his best IPL season so far. The former South African captain is only getting better with time and he will probably be targeted by many IPL franchises in the Mega Auction. However, Delhi Capitals are in need of a top order batsman and Faf du Plessis will be a perfect fit for them.
Prasidh Krishna – Prasidh Krishna has been in great form with the Indian senior team lately. His performances in the West Indies and South Africa series were commendable and he is proving his worth in every match. Delhi Capitals can surely try to get him.
Avesh Khan – Avesh Khan was Delhi’s best bowler in IPL 2021. Sadly they had to let go of him as they could retain only four players. However, they now have a chance to get him back in the Mega Auction and they probably will.
Lucknow Super Giants
Here are three players that Lucknow Super Giants must buy in the Mega Auction:-
1. Ravichandran Ashwin – Ravichandran Ashwin is one of the most experienced players who will go under the hammer in the Mega Auction. Lucknow Super Giants will definitely try to get him. He will not only be able to assist KL Rahul in captaincy, but can also guide young spinner Ravi Bishnoi alongside of course performing himself.
2. Wanindu Hasaranga – Wanindu Hasaranga is the World No.1 T20I bowler in the world right now according to ICC Rankings. He was great in the T20 World Cup. He is an all-rounder and will be a great addition to the Lucknow Super Giants squad.
3. Yash Dhull – India U19 captain Yash Dhull had a great performance in the 2022 U19 World Cup. He led the team to victory in the tournament and is a prodigious talent. Lucknow will definitely try to get hold of him in the auction. He is considered to be one of the future stars of India.
Ahmedabad Titans
Here are three players that Ahmedabad Titans must buy in the Mega Auction:-
1. Krunal Pandya – Hardik Pandya is the captain of the Ahmedabad Franchise and the management will definitely want to team him up with his brother. The Hardik-Krunal duo is famously known as the Pandya brothers and they are great together. Ahmedabad will definitely bid for the all-rounder.
2. Kuldeep Yadav – Ahmedabad Titans already have a world class spinner in Rashid Khan and adding Kuldeep Yadav will further strengthen their spin threat. Kuldeep Yadav has not been in great form in the last few years but he will definitely give it his all if he is given a chance. Moreover, Rashid Khan will surely help him improve his performances.
3. Steve Smith – One experienced player that Ahmedabad can target is Steve Smith. It is not a name that you might have thought of as Steve Smith is not that influential in the shorter formats lately, but he is after all one of the modern day legends. He is not given much chance in the shorter formats lately and it is a bet that Ahmedabad can afford to take.
