The TATA IPL 2022 Season is almost half done. Many games have already been played. And several players have made an impression. Chennai Super Kings and the Mumbai Indians look to have got the formula wrong this season! On the other hand, Gujarat Titans, the least expected team has cracked the code. On Sunday night, David Miller won the game for Gujarat with 3 wickets in hand and a ball to spare against CSK. Here is an in-depth look:

IPL 2022, GT VS CSK, CSK Playing 11:

IPL 2022, GT VS CSK, GT Playing 11:

Wriddhiman Saha (wk), Shubman Gill, Vijay Shankar, David Miller, Abhinav Manohar, Rahul Tewatia, Rashid Khan (c), Alzarri Joseph, Lockie Ferguson, Yash Dayal, Mohammed Shami.

IPL 2022, GT VS CSK, First Innings:

Rashid Khan was leading the team in the absence of captain Hardik Pandya. Hardik Pandya had a strain in the groin and the management did not want to take a chance hence Rashid had to step in as captain. The toss was won by Gujarat and they opted to bowl. In absence of Hardik to strike a balance, Matthew Wade was dropped and ALzarri Joseph was picked. Wriddhiman Saha was supposed to open.

The silver line for CSK in this game was the form of Ruturaj Gaikwad’s form. The CSK management backed the youngster and he finally performed. It was not an ideal start however as Robin Uthappa was dismissed just for 3 and Moeen Ali followed him back to the pavilion after scoring 1 run. In the mandatory powerplay, CSK managed 39 runs. Ambati Rayudu walked in at 4 and joined hands with Ruturaj.

This dynamic duo was taking the charge of the opposition. Ruturaj was impressed with his illustrious cover drives. He was timing the ball to perfection. Rayudu on the other hand was agile. The duo put up a 92-run partnership before Rayudu fell to Alzarri Joseph. Joseph pulled the game back for GT after dismissing Ruturaj. Shivam Dube and Ravindra Jadeja managed a few lusty blows, in the end, to take the team to a well-set 169-5.

Brief Scores:

  • Ruturaj Gaikwad: 73 runs off 48 balls.
  • Ambati Rayudu: 46 runs of 31 balls.
  • Alzarri Joseph: 2/34.

IPL 2022, GT VS CSK, Second Innings:

The run-chase by the Titans was a heist in the true sense. The back of the run-chase was broken in the first few overs itself. Maheesh Teekshana, CSK’s trump card left GT in a dire situation of 2-2. He sent back Vijay Shankar and Abhinav Manohar. When the scoreboard said 12-3, Abhinav had to walk back. This was a good chance for the youngster to prove his mettle. David Miller then had to take charge. He tried to stitch a partnership with Rahul Tewatia. Of the 39-run partnership, Miller trashed 33 runs and Tewatia scored only 6. This shows that Miller was batting on a different parallel. He was hitting the ball crystal clear. Miller’s signature shot of hitting the pacer over mid-wicket was also on display. The Killer Miller who was last seen in the game against RCB in 2013 was visible. Tewatia walked back and Rashid came in.

Rashid added fuel to fire of the problems of CSK. He helped Miller. Rashid made a well-crafted 40 of 21 balls. His contribution was the turning point of the game. DJ Bravo tried to pull the game back for CSK by sending Rashid, Alzarri, and Tewatia to the pavilion but Miller had different plans.

The game went down to the wire with Gujarat requiring 6 runs of 3 balls. Jordan bowled a waist-high no-ball! The pressure had taken the better of the experienced Englishman. The game flipped there, and Gujarat secured a victory. Miller remained not out with a jaw-dropping 94 of 50 balls.

Brief Scores:

  • Gujarat Titans win by 3 wickets in hand.
  • David Miller: 94 runs of 50 balls.
  • Rashid Khan: 40 runs of 21 balls.
  • Dwayne Bravo: 3/23.
