India vs West Indies 1st Test Predicted XI & Kuldeep vs Axar Showdown

India vs West Indies 1st Test in Ahmedabad: Predicted Playing XI, Kuldeep vs Axar selection battle, Shubman Gill’s captaincy debut at home, and key match insights.

The 2025 Asia Cup is now over, and it's time to shift from white-ball to red-ball cricket. The West Indies team has arrived in India for a two-match Test series. The first match of the series will be played tomorrow (October 2) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, while the second match will be played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. Let's take a look at the Indian team's potential playing-11 for the Ahmedabad Test series.

The last time the Indian team played a Test series on Indian soil under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma was in 2024. This Test series was played between India and New Zealand in which New Zealand defeated the Indian team 3-0.

Following the retirements of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli from Test cricket, Shubman Gill has been given the full-time captaincy of the Indian Test team. It will be interesting to see what achievements the team achieves under Gill's captaincy and Gautam Gambhir's coaching.

India Predicted Playing 11 against West Indies

India Playing 11: Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Sai Sudharsan, Shubman Gill  (C), Dhruv Jurel (WK), Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj

For some time now, the Indian team has started playing aggressive cricket in Tests. In such a situation, for opening, Yashasvi Jaiswal, who scores runs at a fast pace, along with him, KL Rahul, who has the ability to give a solid start, the pair of both will be beneficial for the team. While, captain Gill’s form provides a strong anchor role in middile order.

The Ahmedabad pitch is typically batting-friendly, but in a Test match, the pitch will change from the third to fourth day, with the ball starting to move. Spinners will have a good opportunity to take wickets. In these conditions, Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav can play a vital role for the Indian team. With Axar Patel, the team also has the luxury of a batting mainstay.

Mohammed Siraj's participation in the pace attack is almost certain. Now it will be interesting to see whether Jasprit Bumrah plays the first Test match or he will be rested and Prasidh Krishna will get a chance in the playing eleven.
