The fans have been left shocked after former IPL chairman Lalit Modi claimed that Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), who won their maiden IPL title after winning IPL 2025, are up for sale. Earlier, there was a rumor about the sale of the franchise, but now, it is almost confirmed that the current owners of RCB are willing to sell it.

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) won their first IPL title after defeating Punjab Kings (PBKS) by 6 runs in the IPL 2025 Final at Narendra Modi Stadium. RCB played exceptional cricket in that season, and the team has done a fantastic job under the new leadership of Rajat Patidar. 

Lalit Modi Confirms RCB Sale Rumors

In a social Media post, Lalit Modi, former IPL Commissioner and the league’s founding architect, confirmed that RCB’s current owners, Diageo Plc, have finally decided to put the franchise up for sale. Vijay Mallya was the original owner of the RCB since the franchise was formed, but Diagro Plc acquired the franchise in 2016.

Modi wrote, “It seems the owners have finally decided to take it off their balance sheet and sell it. Having won the IPL, with a strong fan base and a great management team, it could be the only team available as a whole as an IPL franchise.”

Modi highlighted RCB’s immense brand value and their recent championship as a reason why global investors or sovereign funds will aggressively try to take the franchise. Reports suggest that RCB’s valuation could soar to $2 billion (Rs. 200 Crore) or even higher, setting a new benchmark in IPL and sports franchise history.
