DC to shockingly sack Axar Patel and hand captaincy to KL Rahul in IPL 2026
In what has been the latest development, as per the reports in News 24, it is learned that Delhi Capitals (DC) is all set to sack Axar Patel as a captain ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. Moreover, KL Rahul will now take over the leadership of the side.
This comes as a massive shock as Axar Patel was decent as a skipper last year. However, after just one season, he will be getting sacked and this will act as a big shock. Patel was also recently named as the vice-captain of the Indian side for the ICC T20 World Cup 2026.
Under the leadership of Axar Patel, the Delhi Capitals finished in the fifth spot. They won four out of their four games in the IPL last year, but after that slipped and then failed to get going. This, however, seems to have upset the owners as they will now change the leader.
KL Rahul set for his third captaincy stint in IPL
When KL Rahul ws picked by DC in the IPL 2025, it was almost certain that he would take up the captaincy. But that wasn’t the case as he himself declined the leadership as he wanted to focus on the batting and this made DC hand Axar Patel the leadership.
KL Rahul now seems to have put his hand up for the DC captaincy and he will be getting the title in IPL 2026. This will be the third time that he will be leading a team in the league, having captained Lucknow Super Giants and Punjab Kings.
However, as a captain, he couldn’t bring any glory to his team. But at DC, he would want to change their fortunes and bring the IPL title to DC, their first in the league. Although, the official confirmation is yet to be made, the announcement is on the cards.
It remains to be seen how DC fares in the IPL 2026. They have been trying hard to win the title for the last few years. It remains to be seen how they will perform.
