Minimum Overs Required for a Valid Match:

The World Cup follows ODI rules, where each team plays 50 overs. However, if rain interrupts, a match can still be possible, but only if a minimum of 20 overs per side are completed. So,

If both teams get to bat at least 20 overs, a result can be declared (using DLS if needed).

If Team 1 bats full 50 overs and Team 2 faces at least 20 overs before rain stops play, the DLS method will be used to decide the winner.

Note: If 20 overs per team are not completed, the match will be declared “No Result”, but since this World Cup Knockout Stage so the match will be shifted to the reserve day (October 31).

If the same thing happens on the reverse day, then the team with a better position on the points table will move to the final, which is Australia as of now.

Is There a Reverse Day for IND-W vs AUS-W Semi-Final?

Since this is a knockout stage match, the ICC has allocated a reserve day specifically for the semifinal (October 31) to complete the game if the scheduled day’s match is washed out or interrupted due to rain.

The DLS Method:

Rain or bad weather can reduce the number of overs, which could affect the chasing team’s chance. So, here the DLS method comes into play; it is a formula used to reset the target when overs are reduced due to interruptions.

The new target score for the chasing team is based on overs remaining, wickets lost, resources used. For example, If an Indian scores 250 in 50 overs and Australia gets to bat only 30 overs due to raim, the DLS system adjusts the target based on the current run rate and wickets in hand.

What If the Match is Washed Out? (No Result Scenario)

If the match between India and Australia Women is washed out on both match and reserve-day due to rain, then the team that finished higher in the group stage will move to the final. In this case, Australia finished at the top position in the Women’s World Cup 2025 Points Table after the group stage.
