IND vs WI: After how many years has India been playing a home test without Ravichandran Ashwin?

The Indian Cricket Team and the West Indies Cricket Team are locking horns with each other in the first match of the two-match series. The match between the two teams is underway at the Narendra Modi International Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad.

This is the first time in a long time when India are playing a test without three of their legends in Virat Kohli, Ravichandran Ashwin and Rohit Sharma at home. The young Indian side has taken over completely with Shubman Gill leading the side. 

Although, they played without them in England, this is the first time at home that they will be playing without them. While, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli missed some games due to injuries and personal reasons at home, Ravichandran Ashwin was the main man. 

Ever since he made his debut for India, he has played all the home tests and dominated all of them. One of the key reasons behind India winning all of their series from 2012 to 2024 was him. Also, with the bat, he was sensational, scoring runs at crucial phases.

IND vs WI: When was the last time India played a home Test without West Indies?

The last time India played without Ravichandran Ashwin at home was against New Zealand in 2010 in Nagpur. Following that, he featured in all the games India played at home, featuring in 65 games on the trot.

Ashwin’s home record has been sensational as well. In the 65 games that he played, he picked 383 wickets at an average of 21.57. He also picked 29 fifers to go with the best of 7/59. With the bat too, he was sensational as well, hitting 1989 runs to go with four tons.

Ashwin’s absence no doubt will be a massive and the young guns also will be under a lot of pressure. It remains to be seen how Washington Sundar fills in the shoes.
