IND vs ENG series is underway and the first game between the teams has been done and dusted. Despite taking the lead of 190 odd runs in the first innings, India suffered a 28-run loss, which speaks a lot about the effort from England. The hosts went 1-0 down in the series and would be eager to stage a comeback.

There were a lot of factors that paved the way for India’s loss in the first IND vs ENG game. One of them was the failure of Shubman Gill with the bat. The batter failed drastically and didn’t make an impact as was expected of him in the match in what were the home conditions for the team.

Shubman Gill, who started his career as an opener, recently moved down to No.3 and since then nothing has gone their way. In the first IND vs ENG game, he slammed a scratchy 23 runs in the first innings and then followed it up with a golden duck in the second innings.

Ahead of the second IND vs ENG Test, Shubman Gill has come under the firing line and there have been calls related to his omission from the team. The batter has been under a lot of pressure but with the kind of confidence, team management has shown, he might get another game.

The upcoming IND vs ENG game can be a make-or-break series for him. He would be hoping to forget what has happened in the recent past. He would be eager to score runs and claim his stake back in the team after a poor run of form in the longest format.

With the second IND vs ENG Test just a few days around, former Indian cricketer Wasim Jaffer has come up with a unique suggestion. He feels that waiting for his batting isn’t helping Shubman Gill and therefore he should open the innings.

Jaffer believes that Rohit Sharma being the good player of spin can adjust at No.3 spot and should allow Shubman Gill to open the innings. Taking to his Twitter account, he explained:

“Gill and Jaiswal should open and Rohit should bat at no.3 in 2nd test in my opinion. Waiting to bat for his turn isn’t helping Shubman, it’s better he opens the inn. Rohit plays spin really well, so batting at no.3 should not worry him too much.”
