Mohammad Shami is likely to be ruled out of the South Africa Test series

IND vs RSA: Indian fans are not going to be happy after reading this. In what might prove to be a massive setback for The Men in Blue, Star Pacer Mohammed Shami is set to miss the two-match test series vs. South Africa. According to Cricbuzz, the 33-year-old has not recovered from the ankle injury he sustained during the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup, and therefore he might miss the 2-match Test Series vs. the Proteas.

As published in the news report from Cricbuzz, Shami will not travel to South Africa with other senior members of the team, which includes the likes of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Jasprit Bumrah. Navdeep Saini and Harshit Rana will board the flight to South Africa along with the seniors, as per the report.

The BCCI hasn’t announced any replacement for Mohammed Shami for the 2-match Test series vs. South Africa, but it is believed that someone from the group of pacers who are present in South Africa and are a part of the white ball series squad of India might replace the 33-year-old for the test series.

Shami’s absence is a serious setback for the Indian team, given his outstanding record against the Proteas in South Africa. With an incredible strike rate of 44.66, Shami has taken 35 wickets in eight Test matches played in Africa. Young pacer Prasidh Krishna appears to be the frontrunner to fill the job of third seamer in his absence.
