ICC World Cup 2023: R Ashwin to be included in Indian WC squad if Axar Patel doesn’t recover in time – reports
Indian cricket team will be heading into the ICC World Cup 2023 under pressure. The reasons behind this are they will be playing in home conditions and the home crowd certainly will have high expectations from them. The other is they are yet to win the ICC title since the 2013 tournament and all the eyes would be on them.
India have named their provisional squad for the ICC World Cup 2023. However, just ahead of the tournament, they have faced a few injury scares as all-rounder Axar Patel hurt himself during the recently concluded Asia Cup 2023. This has raised quite a few issues for the team as he has been the top-notch form with both bat as well as the ball.
But this has been a blessing in disguise for veteran Indian off-spinner R Ashwin. The senior pro has been included in the team for the three-match series for Australia. This gives quite an indication that he’s well in contention to make it into the ICC World Cup 2023 squad.
Even captain Rohit Sharma said that they want to see what R Ashwin can do in the three games. However, a recent report in Times of India has suggested that an off-spinner would be included in the Indian squad for the ICC World Cup 2023.
The reports suggested that if Axar Patel doesn’t recover before 28th September the R Ashwin or Washington Sundar will be added to the main 15 men’s World Cup squad of India. It is expected that Ashwin will make it into the squad because of his experience.
