ICC Women's World Cup 2025 Points table: South Africa crush Sri Lanka to move to number two spot
In a game that was reduced to 20 overs per side due to rain, South Africa beat Sri Lanka by ten wickets in the 18th match of the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025. The game which took place at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo saw Sri Lanka winning the toss and opting to bat.
They managed just 105 in 20 overs, with the target getting revised to 121 due to DLS. South Africa then looked class apart with the bat, chasing the target inside 15 overs
Sri Lanka’s woes with that continued to haunt them in this game as well as they had another poor outing. Vishmi Gunaratne (34), who got retired hurt mid-way, was the top run-getter for her team while the rest of the batters failed to go past the 20-run mark.
Nonkululeko Mlaba bagged three wickets while Masabata Klaas took two for South Africa as Sri Lankan wickets kept falling at regular intervals. Even 100 didn’t look possible at one stage, but thanks to small lower-order contributions they went past 100.
In the chase, where the target was revised to 121 due to DLS, South Africa came up with a near-perfect game with the bat. Skipper Laura Wolvaardt (60*) slammed a great fifty and was supported well by her opening partner Tanzim Brits (55*). The duo added an unbeaten 125 runs for the first wicket to take their team home and jump up to the second spot in the points table.
