ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 points table: Sophie Devine ends her career with a loss as England thrash New Zealand by 8 wickets

England ended the league stage of the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 on a high as they outplayed New Zealand by eight wickets in the 27th game of the tournament at ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam.

Despite winning the toss and batting first, New Zealand struggled to score big, getting all out for 168. In response, England took just 29.2 overs to register another dominating win. 

New Zealand lost Suzie Bates early in the innings but Georgia Plummer (43) and Amelia Kerr (35) looked in great touch and batted well for their 68-run stand for the second wicket. 

In her last outing, Sophie Devine (23) also made a valuable contribution but despite that, nothing went New Zealand’s way as they lost wickets in clusters and eventually got all out for 168. For England, Linsey Smith was the pick of the bowlers with her three wickets. 

England were in a hurry to finish the game as openers in Amy James (86*) and Tammy Beaumont (40) took the New Zealand bowlers to the cleaners, adding 75 runs for the opening stand. While Beaumont lost her wicket in the 15th over, Jones continued her good form. Skipper Heather Knight (33) also played a part as England chased the target with ease to enter the semi-final on a high.

After match 27, ENG vs NZ, Australia are at the top, while England moved to second followed by South Africa at third and India at fourth. Sri Lanka, New Zealand, Pakistan and Bangladesh are next and have been eliminated.
