ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 points table: India qualifies for the semi-final after their 53-run thrashing win over New Zealand

India qualified for the semi-final of the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 after three close defeats, they finally registered a win under their belt. The Harmanpreet Kaur-led side beat New Zealand by 53 runs in match 24 of the tournament at Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai on Thursday. 

Put into bat, it was a dream start for India with the bat as both openers in Smriti Mandhana (109) and Pratika Rawal (122) were all over the opposition. They continued their good form in the tournament and both ended up slamming tons. 

They etched an opening partnership of 212 that set the tone for India. The move to promote Jemimah Rodrigues (76*) worked as well as she also slammed a quick fifty, adding 76 runs for the second wicket. Thanks to the contribution by the top three, India posted a mammoth total of 340 for three.

New Zealand lost Suzie Bates for just one in the chase as Kranti Gaud provided India with a much-needed opening breakthrough. But, Georgia Plummer (30) and Amelia Kerr (45) made up for the early loss, adding 50 runs for the second wicket. 

Renuka Singh then brought her team back in the game with two quick wickets and then others chipped in as well with New Zealand getting reduced to 154 for five. Brooke Halliday (81) kept her team in the game and slammed a brilliant fifty under pressure. 

Isabella Gaze (65*) joined her and both made Indian bowlers think a lot, adding 72 runs. But India had a cushion of extra runs on the board and despite their efforts, New Zealand managed 271 for eight, losing the game by 53 runs.

After match 24, IND vs NZ, India became the fourth team to qualify for the semi-final of the ICC Women's World Cup 2025, joining Australia, South Africa and England, who are at the top three positions. India are at fourth followed by New Zealand and Sri Lanka. Bangladesh and Pakistan are next.
