ICC Women's World Cup 2025: England register thrilling win over Bangladesh! Points table after match 8, ENG vs BAN
England registered another win in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025, thrashing Bangladesh by four wickets at Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati, on Tuesday. Put into bat, Bangladesh had a horrible outing, getting all out for just 178. England struggled in the chase, losing wickets at crucial junctures, but fought their way to the target to win their second game of the tournament.
Bangladesh didn’t have the kind of start they would have wanted as they lost two key players in Rubya Haider and skipper Nigar Sultana for just 25 on the board. Sharmin Akhter (30:52b, 6x4), who opened the innings, played a decent hand but her innings was cut short by Sophie Eccesltone (three for 24) in the 16th over.
Sobhana Mostary (60) slammed a fifty but batted with a very poor strike rate as wickets kept falling at the other end with England asserting their authority. Rabeya Khan (43*) provided much-needed momentum to the but a lack of support at the other end left her stranded as Bangladesh got all out for 178.
The start of the chase didn’t go the way England would have wanted. Both inform openers in Tammy Beaumont and Amy Jones lost their wickets inside seven overs. Heather Knight (79*) and Nat Sciver-Brunt (32:41b, 5x4) then steadied the innings with their 40-run partnership, and it seemed that it would be an easy chase.
However, Bangladesh made a strong comeback with Fahima Khatun picking three wickets in quick succession of time. Alice Capsey (20) then tried to provide support to Knight, but couldn’t carry on. Thankfully, it didn’t cost England much as Charlotte Dean (23*) then played a great supporting hand as she, along with Knight, batted brilliantly, adding for the seventh wicket.
Thanks to their partnership, England snatched victory from the jaws of defeat, winning by four wickets.
