After a ten-wicket thrashing in their opening game, made a solid comeback in their second match of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025. They thrashed by six wickets at Holkar Stadium in Indore, handing them their second straight loss.

It was the worst possible start for New Zealand with the bat as Suzie Bates got out on the first ball of the match. Georgia Plimmer (31) and Amelia Kerr (23) then joined hands bringing the Black Caps back in the game with their 44-run stand for the second wicket.

However, South Africa kept taking wickets at regular intervals to apply the brakes on scoring. Sophie Devine (85), who hit a century in the last game, continued her good form and played a valuable innings yet again. Brooke Halliday (45) supported her in the middle phase as the duo added 86 runs for the fourth wicket.

Nonkululeko Mlaba bagged four wickets for South Africa as they ended New Zealand’s innings for 231.

Chasing the target, South Africa lost skipper Laura Wolvaardt early but it came as a blessing in disguise as Tanzim Brits (101) played one of her best innings and slammed a blistering century. Sune Luus (82*) played a great role as well at four as he and Tanzim added 159 runs for the second wicket.

Their partnership almost sealed the game for their side and put New Zealand on the back foot. Although, the Kiwis made a slight comeback, Luus stayed unbeaten in the end and took her took home with six wickets in hand.

After match 7, NZ vs SA in the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2025, are still at the top of the points table followed by at two. and are in third and fourth spot respectively. While, after the win, South Africa moved to 5th spot. are sixth with one point. New Zealand and are last with no wins.
