India scripted history in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 final with a dominant performance that underlined their supremacy in the shortest format. In front of a massive crowd of 86,824 spectators at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, India crushed New Zealand by 96 runs to become the first team in history to win three Men’s T20 World Cup titles and successfully defend the trophy.
Batting first, India produced a breathtaking display of power-hitting. Abhishek Sharma (52 off 21), Sanju Samson (89 off 46) and Ishan Kishan (54 off 25) powered India to a massive 255/5 in 20 overs. The opening stand between Abhishek and Samson – 98 runs in just 7.1 overs – set the tone for the innings. Later, Shivam Dube’s late assault ensured the total crossed the 250-mark.
New Zealand never truly recovered from that assault. Although Tim Seifert scored a fighting 52, the rest of the batting lineup struggled against India’s disciplined bowling attack. Jasprit Bumrah delivered a masterclass with 4/15, while Axar Patel and the rest of the bowling unit applied relentless pressure. New Zealand were eventually restricted well short of the target, handing India a convincing 96-run victory.
