Vivo IPL 2021: Delhi Capitals named first Covid-19 backup for Axar Patel

Vivo IPL 2021: Delhi Capitals’ Axar Patel Tested positive for Coronavirus ahead of the Vivo IPL 2021.

Vivo IPL 2021: All rounder Axar Patel has been tested positive for coronavirus on Saturday, 6 days before the opener of the Indian Premier League. He became the second cricketer after Nitish Rana to test positive. Although Rana’s covid-report came negative on Thursday.

According to Delhi Capitals’ report, the cricketer had checked in with the Covid-negative report while his second Covid report turned positive.

“He had checked into the team hotel in Mumbai on March 28, 2021, with a negative report. His report from the second COVID test came positive. He is currently in isolation at a designated medical care facility,” said a Delhi Capitals statement.

As per the Standard Operation Protocols (SOPs) released by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Axar Patel will have to self isolate himself out of the team’s bio-bubble and will not come back in until he tests negative.

“During the 10-day isolation, the individual must rest and avoid any exercises. The team doctor should regularly monitor the case. If symptoms worsen during the course of isolation, the individual must be hospitalised immediately,” states the BCCI SOP, as per ANI.

The left-arm all-rounder was roped in by the Delhi Capitals (DC) in the 2019 auction for INR 5 Crores and since then he has cemented his position. He featured in 14 IPL games in 2019 while 15 in 2020 IPL.

The runner-up of IPL 020, Delhi Capitals (DC) are scheduled to play against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to kickstart their IPL 2021 campaign in Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium. As many as 10 ground staffs and six event managers from Wankhede Stadium have been tested positive for the virus.
