CSK's Dewald Brevis becomes the costliest buy in SA20 league, joins Sourav Ganguly's Pretoria Captials for a record breaking fee
South African young cricketer Dewald Brevis has created history by becoming the highest-paid player in the South African T20 League (SAT20) Auction. The SAT20 League, which started in 2023, has helped Sunrisers win the Eastern Cape title for two consecutive seasons.
Markram became the highest-priced player
this year, while Sunrisers reached the final. MI Cape Town won the title for the first time. Six teams in this league have already released the retention list for next year. The schedule for the auction was finalized on Tuesday. In this context, Aiden Markram became the highest-priced player in the SAT20-2026 auction.
Markram had the honor of leading Sunrisers to the Eastern Cape title twice as captain. However, for unknown reasons, he severed ties with Sunrisers before the auction. In this order, he came to the auction and was bought by Durban Super Giants for a record Rs. 7 crore.
The record was broken in no time...
making Markram the most expensive player in the history of the SAE T20 League. However, his record was soon broken by young star Dewald Brevis. Pretoria Capitals bought him for a whopping Rs. 8.3 crore. With this, the 22-year-old Brevis wrote history as the most expensive player in the history of the league.
In international cricket
Dewald Brevis, who made his debut in the IPL in 2022, has played 16 matches so far and scored 455 runs. He last represented Chennai Super Kings in the 2025 season. Brevis, known as a hitter, made his international debut in 2023.
However, Brevis, who has been limited to T20s for South Africa, made his Test and ODI debuts this year. The right-handed batsman, who has played 10 T20 matches at the international level so far, has scored 318 runs. He has also scored 110 runs in six ODIs and 84 runs in two Tests. Meanwhile, Aiden Markram, who is the South African T20 captain, is likely to take over as the captain of the Durban Super Giants this time.
