SA20 Points Table Updated (January 30): In an epic contest Mumbai Indians Cape Town (MICT) locked horns against Joburg Super Kings (JSK) in match 23 of the SA20 League 2024. The contest was staged at the Newlands in Cape Town on January 29th, which saw JSK defeat MICT by 10 wickets and climb up in the SA20 League Points Table.



Earlier, JSK invited the MICT to bat first, which didn't seem to be a good decision. However, as things turned out, the move started falling in place and gave an advantage to the JSK.



Mumbai Indians Cape Town started off decently at around 6 runs per over until the rain intervened in the proceedings. MI had played six overs and scored 43 runs and after the play resumed following a long haul due to showers, they had just 12 more deliveries to play around as per the revised conditions.



At the end of eight overs, MICT found themselves in a decent position with 98 runs on board, thanks to skipper Kieron Pollard's blitz innings of 33 runs in just 10 deliveries.



The problem was quite clear for the JSK, who only had the option to whack the opposition until they reached 98 runs total and the two Super Kings opener did exactly what was expected of them. Faf du Plessis and Leus du Plooy completely blew MICT out of the water and hunted down the target in just 5.5 overs.



The insane striking of the ball saw du Plooy score 41 runs in just 14 deliveries and his partner du Plessis contributed with a 20-ball half-century. The two not only helped JSK win the game but also bagged the crucial bonus point to further simplify the equation for his side.

With another poor outing, MI Cape Town have now almost cemented their place at the bottom of the SA20 League Points Table. MICT have only managed to win two matches so far after playing out 8 in the league. The franchise have just nine points to their name.



MICT, to stand any chance for the SA20 League Playoff qualification, needs to win both of their remaining matches with a decent margin. If possible the team must try to bag the bonus points in both the remaining fixtures.



Joburg Super Kings, on the other side, were sensational in their outing. JSK have managed to lift themselves to the fourth spot with the win over MICT in Newlands. JSK too have 2 wins so far in the tournament after playing 8 fixtures, but it is worth noting that two of their games have been washed out.

SA20 2024 Players with Most Runs and Most Wickets: Joburg Super Kings (JSK) took on MI Cape Town in match number 23 of the ongoing SA20 2024. The game saw JSK wreak havoc and torment the MI Cape Town bowlers and win the contest by 10 wickets in the revised conditions. 



The rain-curtailed game saw the flamboyance of Faf du Plessis, who racked up 50 runs in a mere 20 deliveries to take his side home in under 6 overs. Along with him, his opening partner Leus du Plooy played a blitz innings of 41 runs in 14 deliveries to win the rain-marred fixture against MI Cape Town by 10 wickets.



Owing to rain interruption, only 8 over per side fixture was possible. MI Cape Town put up 80 runs in their quota of 8 overs, thanks to skipper Kieron Pollard's 10-ball 33 runs innings. 



After the loss, MI Cape Town sank in the SA20 2024 Points Table with just two wins in eight outings. Meanwhile, Joburg Super Kings (JSK) are comfortably placed in fourth place with two victories in 8 matches, but a lot more points than MI Cape Town.

Though MI Cape Town is placed at the bottom of the points table, their opener Ryan Rickelton has put up a different show with the bat. The left-handed batter has secured the top place in the points table with 405 runs in 8 innings. The batter has notched up four 50+ scores, including a knock of 98 runs.



Matthew Breetzke, a Durban Super Giants (DSG) batter, is placed second with 301 runs from eight innings. The batter has piled up runs at a brilliant strike rate of 144. Breetzke is followed by Paarl Royals' batter Jos Buttler, who has 296 runs against his name in 8 innings.



DSG batter Heinrich Klaasen is placed fourth on the list with 280 runs in eight outings at an average of 46.66.

Paarl Royals (PR) pacer Lungi Ngidi tops the chart when it comes to bowling figures in the ongoing SA20 league. The speedster has managed to pick up 13 wickets in the league after featuring in 8 innings.



Ngidi is followed by Joburg Super Kings (JSK) pacer Lizaard Williams with 11 wickets in 6 innings. Williams has been quite expensive as his economy exceeds 10. 



Keshav Maharaj and Reece Topley are placed third and fourth respectively with 11 wickets each. DSG all-rounder Marcus Stoinis is at the fifth spot with 10 wickets at an economy of 7.11.

Matheesha Pathirana, a key bowler for five times IPL winners Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and the Sri Lankan Cricket team, has been struggling to perform well in recent times and he has given away a lot runs off his bowling. 
Currently representing the team of Joburg Super Kings (JSK) in the SA 20, he recently bowled three overs versus the Durban Super Giants (DSG) and in those three overs, the Pacer gave away 34 runs at economy 11.33 ,including seven wide balls. Though he picked up a wicket, he still didn't bowl according to his standards and proved to be really expensive. 
The 22-year-old has taken part in two SA 20 encounters so far and in those two games, he has picked up just a single wicket and has given away runs at an astonishingly high economy rate of 10.71.
Not only this, in the recently concluded three-match T20 International series between Sri Lanka and New Zealand, Pathirana managed to dismiss just two batters and gave away runs at an average of 12 runs per over. 
<h2>What's the reason behind his poor form with the ball?</h2>
The Young seamer's boiling action is similar to the legendary Lasith Malinga. While releasing the ball, his hand action is slightly lower than that of Malinga. In this case, due to the slingy action, the youngester had developed a muscle strain in his bowling hand last year and once he recovered from this issue, he changed his bowling action slightly. 
The change which he has made is in the throwing position which is now higher than Malinga's throwing position. This slight change is causing issues for him and batsman are taking full advantage of this.
Due to this change in his bowling action, the 22-year-old is constantly changing his line and length. Since the threat of an injury looks at any time if he bowls using his old action, he has no other choice but to bowl in a different way. Therefore, it's believed that the Sri Lankan seamer won't be able to create any kind of impact with the ball in the upcoming IPL 2025 season.
<h2>Do CSK have any potential replacements for Pathirana? </h2>
Nathan Ellis is the replacement for Pathirana. This Australian pacer has been in tremendous bowling form off late and inn particular, his ability to bowl slow balls in an accurrate way is troubling the Big Bash batters. Therefore, it is believed that if Pathirana is injured at the beginning of the 18th season, Ellis will play as a replacement.
