CONFIRMED!! Shardul Thakur to Mumbai Indians, All-Cash Deal Completed Before IPL 2026 Retention

Among all trade deals happening, Indian all-rounder Shardul Thakur is all set to join the Mumbai Indians (MI) after a confirmed all-cash trade with Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). As per the reports by Espncricinfo, both the franchises have already submitted an “expression of interest” to the IPL Governing Council.
Shardul Thakur started his IPL journey with Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) in 2025. According to reports, this trade is an all-cash deal between both the franchises, which means the Mumbai Indians are directly buying Shardul Thakur’s contract from LSG without exchanging any player.
Shardul Thakur had a decent performance in the last edition of the Indian Premier League. He played 10 matches in IPL 2025 and took 13 wickets but scored only 18 runs. Shardul can contribute with both bat and ball; he can support captain Hardik Pandya and Naman Dhir.
With the addition of Shardul Thakur, the Mumbai Indians will have three Indian all-rounders who can bat and bowl. Most importantly, All three are medium pacers, Hardik Pandya and Naman Dhir known for their aggressive bowling, whereas Shardul Thakur is known for his wicket-taking ability in the middle and death overs.
A Homecoming for Shardul Thakur:
Shardul was part of the Kings XI Punjab in 2025; however, he didn’t get a chance to play in many games. But, over the years, Shardul Tahkur has become one of the best seam-bowling all-rounders.
Shardul Thakur IPL Stats:
| Format | Matches | Runs | Wickets | 4W/5W | 50s/100s |
| IPL | 105 | 325 | 107 | 2/0 | 1.0 |
The addition of Shardul Thakur will give more bowling options to the Mumbai Indians. MI already had a squad that could score 200+ runs and restrict opponents under 100. From Jasprit Bumrah to Trent Boult, they have plenty of options in the bowling department, but the spin department needs some care.
