BREAKING!! BCB Removes Director Najmul Islam After Players Revolt, BPL in Crisis
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has removed Najmul Islam as chairman of the BCB’s Finance Committee after strong protests from senior national team players. The decision came after the Cricket Welfare Association of Bangladesh (CWAB) threatened to boycott the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) if no action was taken against the director.
The Controversy starts after Najmul Islam defends the BCB’s stance on refusing to travel to India for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 and questions the commitment of Bangladeshi cricketers. He said that players will not be compensated if Bangladesh withdraws from the 2026 T20 World Cup, as they had failed to win any ICC tournament.
The situation got worse when Najmul earlier referred to former captain Tamim Iqbal as an “agent of India” after Tamim urged the Board to review their stance on refusing to play the T20 World Cup 2026 in India.
After getting backlash from fans and pressure from the senior players, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) today announced that Najmul Islam had been relieved of his duties with immediate effect.
BCB’s Statement After Sacking Najmul Islam:
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) said, “Following a review of recent development and in the best interest of the organisation, the BCB President has decided to release Mr. Najmul Islam from his responsibilites as Chairman of the Finance Committee.”
Aminul Islam will replace Najmul as the new Chairman:
“Until further notice, the BCB President will assume the role of Acting Chairman of the Finance Committee. The BCB reiterates that the interests of the cricketers remain its highest priority. The Board remains fully committed to upholding the honour and dignity of all players under its jurisdiction.”

Bangladesh’s T20 World Cup 2026 Stance:
After the removal of Najmul Islam, the BCB is likely to get into the peaceful and diplomatic resolution of the matter with ICC and BCCI after their request to shift the T20 World Cup 2026 matches to Sri Lanka was reportedly rejected.
The Bangladeshi cricketers are interested in participating in the tournament, and it is expected that Bangladesh will travel to India, considering the finances involved in it. As per some reports, Bangladesh’s matches in Kolkata might be shifted to Southern India; however, any official confirmation regarding this is awaited.
